Sweet. DMC 1 was one of the most memorable games I have ever played. DMC 2 was so bad I didn't touch DMC 3, even though it was supposed to have redeemed itself.
Moving from a PS2 to a 360 this is more than welcome news. I would give my pinky for this game - they haven't made a controller that requires using that finger anyway so no big deal.

Evidently so is Ace Combat 6. (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/03/20/save-for-later) Sony's exclusives seem to be jumping shit... I mean... jumping ship.

Yeah. Once MGS and FFXIII end up on the X360, there is probably no incentive to own a PS3 any more unless you want a cheap Blu-ray player.

Even if MGS and FF do end up on X360, the graphic quality is different, so there's still a reason to own a PS3 not just b/c of blu-ray player.

Capcom feels the need to do this now out of neccessity. They want to make the most money possible for the game and know it's not possible to do so currently on just the PS3. This does not mean when a couple million more PS3's sell that Capcom won't put out DMC and other titles as PS3 exclusives. The same might be said for GTA in the future.
The way I see it, the only console that truly relies on it's exclusive games (and first party titles for that matter) is the Wii.

Wait, what? Graphics quality? Multi-platform games look better and run better on the X360 than they do on the PS3.
At least, that's what I have read from reviews for NBA Street, NBA 2K7, and other multi-platform games.

You are right. Not only is the PS3 a blu-ray player but it also does Folding@Home 20x faster than a normal PC. And then it plays games but not at a better graphic quality.

Developers haven't even begun to fully utilize the power of the PS3's GPU yet. Naturally developers have more experience working with the 360, given the 1 year head start. Hence some of the multiplatform games may look marginally better on the 360. Give it a year and then compare again when DMC4 and GTA4 are released on the 2 systems.

^^^^ I agree. The reason why NBA2K7 and such games on X360 have better quality than PS3 because game developers are still trying to fully utilize the power of PS3. NBA2K7 etc were developed based on X360, they simply converted it to work on PS3, that's why.
I assure you NBA Live 08 on PS3, which EA game developers have been working so hard on, will be alot better than on X360.
I read about this yesterday, and I think the point a lot of writers/reporters of this news are overlooking is that this is a bad sign for the state of next gen console gaming when next gen console developers have to also port to PC's to try to make money. Next gen is probably two or three years too early. Then again, Devil May Cry 3 was also released to PC's, but it still compounds the whole business with Live for Windows and Xbox and 360 games ending up on PC's (e.g., Halo 2 and Gears of War). While I much prefer Windows over Mac, at some point this Windows Every-freakin-where nonsense needs to be stopped. Monopolies are seldom beneficial to the consumer. On a related note, I find it pretty strange how Halo and Halo 2 could play on the same Xbox platform - yet, for PC's, Halo is fine on Windows XP, but Halo 2 requires Vista. How convenient for Vista that they have something like Halo 2 pushing the unnecessary upgrade.

Ouch, knee to the crotch from Capcom to Sony.
PS3 is still going to need all the help it can to sale more consoles, exclusives are obviously going to be a big part of that. And loosing your "exclusiveness" to a pretty big franchise like Devil May Cry to your competitor is really going to hurt.
Capcom really seems to be snuggling to Microsoft at the moment.
P.S: And comparing same games like NBA, MLB or Madden to systems, where one has a whole year ahead of the other , is not fair. :p

Third party exclusives are going to be pretty rare since Microsoft has come in and begun to monopolize the gaming industry. No big deal for Sony. They have always had superb first party titles.

a real telling sign that sony completely farked up with its PS3 blu ray player is if those mega titles that made the playstation what it is today, like metal gear solid 4 and the final fantasy series, become available on the 360. the world would end, at least for ps3 fanboys anyways. i have yet to try either, and i'm happy with my 360 as it is, so i'm pretty much unbiased if it does arrive for this console. i would still want to see what the hype is all about with these two hits, however. i mean, devil may cry what the hell is the big deal with it coming on 360? i've never heard of the series
EDIT: and also, what is the meaning of first party games? all i hear is that sony will do fine if they keep producing those

EDIT: and also, what is the meaning of first party games? all i hear is that sony will do fine if they keep producing those
First party games mean they're developed in-house. For example, Nintendo's first party titles would be Mario or Zelda. Nintendo would never lose those titles to another system because Nintendo has exclusive rights to those franchises. In the case of Sony, examples of 1st party franchises would be the likes of Gran Turismo, God of War, etc.
I don't know why people choose to single out Sony as having the problem. Neither of these next gen platforms have many exclusives. Gears of War is going to end up on PC's. They're talking a possible Nintendo DS version of Viva Pinata to try to increase interest in the property. The next Lost Planet is going to be multi-platform. The next gen market cannot currently sustain many exclusives, and rampant piracy on the 360's only agitates the situation.

Final Fantasy XIII heading to Xbox 360?
"The PS3 exclusivity rumor train is unstoppable these days. Just days ago it was revealed that both Devil May Cry 4 and Ace Combat 6 were going multiplatform, and now we hear, courtesy of GameSpot, that the one of the biggest exclusives of all may be spreading the console love as well. Yes, it appears that Final Fantasy XIII -- you know, "that RPG" -- could be jumping the fence in search of greener pastures. In an interview with Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace, Georges Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France, hinted at the possibility. Fornay noted that development costs for games have skyrocketed, making it difficult for 3rd party developers to produce exclusive titles. Said Fornay, "As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion." Square-Enix has yet to comment on Fornay's statement.
Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, recently added fuel to this rumor, stating that the FFXIII's White Engine is capable of multiplatform development, and that he believed making FFXIII a multiplatform game would be a "wise" decision. Is the Xbox 360 about to pick up another of the PS3's heavy hitters? Only time will tell. If Final Fantasy XIII were to come out on Xbox, would it sway your decision to get a PS3?"

To: Capcom
We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
LOL! What a bunch of idiots. If you want to show support for exclusivity, PS3 fanboys should round up and buy out every single copy of DMC4 and make the PS3:X360 ratio like 10 to 1. That way, Capcom won't do it again.

3rd party games are no longer guaranteed exclusive rights anymore... regardless of Xbox 360 , Wii, or PS3.
Games are costing more and more money to develop and the only reason games are developed is to make money. That is the bottom line. To be profitable. The only way to do that is multi platform. PS3 doesn't have the numbers, but they have the brand name. Xbox 360 has 11 million systems sold. Thats too big of a number to ignore. So, more and more games will be multi platform from 3rd party developers. Only 1st party developed games are safe.
This shouldn't come as a surprise anymore. PS2 had exclusives because they dominated the video game market that time. Sales of Gamecube and Xbox didn't come close to PS2, so it made sense for developers to only develop for the PS2.
Microsoft was really smart about releasing the Xbox 360 1 year early to build the install base so developers CAN'T ignore the console. Now games are going to Xbox 360. If Sony released the PS3 the same time as the Xbox 360, I think PS3 would be easily on top right now.

well said.
i also think it's too earlier for mainstream "nexgen gaming" but it'll catch up with time.

Folding@home 20x faster you say?!?!?!?!? Holy fvcking sh!t man!!! Awesome!!! In for 14!!!!!
Folding is nifty, but not fun.
I hope FF makes it to 360, I don't want to replace the ps3 I already sold.

you mean Xbox360 has better graphics than PS3? because that's pretty much the case for all the multi-platform games released at the same time so far.
...released at the same time so far.
And there's the catch. When developing for multi-platform simultaneously, the easiest way to go about it is to program for the lowest common denominator, which is the Xbox 360 and which is why ported games are so friggin' small (because of the 360). When the games are specifically optimized for the PS3...you get stuff like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fight Night Round 3...better than their original counterparts. I would like to see what happens if a game originally developed for the PS3 gets ported to the 360, instead of the other way around.

^^^ I agree. If a game originally developed for the PS3 gets ported to the 360, many functions (movement...etc) would not even work on 360.

that petition thing is hilarious... i cant believe people get so worked up about things like exclusiveness and the like. If the company wants to make more money, (which, I think, is the objective of all companies?) they would make more money while supplying a good product to all the gaming platforms. The game isn't going to be any worse or any better for each system if its multi-platform. This does kind of hurt sony in the short term atleast, because I know that for myself and my friends we all love the dmc series and if this game along with say, gta and/or ff were going to be ps3 exclusive I would have to buy the system, but now I can stick with my 360 til the ps3 comes down in price in a year or so. Also, someone said that developers havent even come close to reaching the ps3's potential which i believe is true, but I don't think the difference between 360 and ps3 graphics will be evident for a long time.
