Please no OT.
This will not cover the weekly deals. See the individual threads for each week.
Different types of clearance:
1. The kind with official CVS tags on the shelves. These are usually found in many stores.
2. The kind on an endcap or special table and often have green stickers on them. These are usually specific to that store. Sometimes the discontinued items will show up at other stores with these stickers, too.
Post your finds, with as much info as possible including where you found them (on the shelf or in another place in the store). If you know of any coupons to use on the clearance items, post those too.
The following makeup is 75% off.
These prices are good through 8/31/07 and come from the markdown printout. YMMV, but it's likely all stores will have this either now or at some time before 8/31/07.

Tonight I was looking for the BurtBees on clearance of which I found none, but this is what I bought:
- 4 L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect Powdery Liquid Foundation $2.99 ea
- 5 L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect Blush $2.25 ea
They were at the very bottom shelves at the L'Oreal rack, with a 75% off sign.
Used:
(1) $4/20
(9) - $2 L’Oreal Makeup, Powder, Blush, Bronze Glow or Concealer, any mfr. Cpn. (x.6-24-07) (4/1 VAL)
Paid $ 2.56 cash :crying2: (I didn't have an ECB that small, and all my limits are reached) of which $1.35 was tax.
I came back and found this thread. KMA you are full of surprises. Thank you.

I wrote about this on the 6/3 thread, but the Burt's Bees small items are 90% off at CVS, Ramsey, NJ. They had a coconut foot creme, body wash, lotion, soap, and something in a little round tin (can't remember). They were $.25 each.

I bought the little round tins- they were cuticle care ointment (great stuff) and some kind of wound/scrape ointment that's green and kinda icky looking. Have no scrapes to report, but with 3 teens in the house I should be able to let you know soon how it works, lol.

Is there a particular day when the tend to mark things down or is it random? I don't ever seem to see clearance items at my local CVS stores, but I'm not that regular a shopper there and maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
Great thread. Thanks.

Great thread. Thanks.
Look for yellow tags that hang below the item. If you just walk up and down the aisles you will be able to spot them down the aisle once you know what you are looking for.

Great thread. Thanks. No special markdown day. But, the ones that are done manually (meaning the individual store has to input the products/prices) are usually NOT done on Sat/Sun (Sat is when they put up the Sunday ad prices and Sunday is when they bring out sale merchandise etc. Sunday is usually the busiest day).
One reason for this thread is to let you know of deals that may be working at your store, but just aren't labeled. When corporate sets a clearance (such as the makeup clearance in the OP), it's in the system pretty much everywhere, even if there aren't any sale tags up. In fact, out of the entire list from my OP, only (3) items had clearance stickers, yet all the others were ringing up (store has been to busy to finish putting stickers on the products). I asked for a copy of the markdown printout and scanned the items for the prices (markdown printout lists 75% off, but not prices).

Thanks so much for this thread! I love when CVS has clearance on their makeup. I find that its the cheapest place to buy drugstore makeup when you add in coupons. Way better then any clearance sales that walgreens or any grocery store have. Now I just need to get in the habit of taking multiple of those tear off pad coupons. I always feel guilty for taking more then one but they come in handy so well since they take forever to expire! Thanks again for all that have contributed to this thread :)

Yes you are correct my bad. I was just so estatic about the make up clearance thats very cheap. It also seems that its in a lot of stores as I went to a 2nd store and they had the same mark downs.

A few CVS's near me (2 out of the 4 I went to today) have clearanced their, shall we say, Family Planning and Intimacy dept. KY sensual mist marked to $2.00 (may be coupons for this??). Lifestyles condoms 12 pack $2.50. Trojan Elexa 12 ct $1.55. Kimono Microthin 12 ct $2.50.
So, all in all, I walked out with a basketful of clearanced makeup and intimacy products. Needless to say, my cashier must have thought I was a prostitute. :lmao:

I was in the Chicago-land area and went into a couple different CVS stores. I was wandering around the liquor area, and found various bottles of liquor on clearance! :yummy:
Of course, I bought a couple carts full, it came to around $175 - here's a partial list of what I found:
Seriously, I was as surprised as you're going to be:
Butter Shots, 750 mL - $1.99
Midori Melon liquor, 750 mL - $3.99
Parrot Bay Mango Rum, 750 mL - $3.99
Bacardi 151 (rockin!) - $4.99
Sour Apple Pucker, 1.5 L - $3.99
some Italian orange/vanilla liquor - $6.00
various large bottles of wine - $1.00-$4.00
Boone's Farm wine - $1.00
There's more, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.
Good luck! I went to a couple other ones, and they were emptying fast. I even saw a cashier grab 3 bottles of Bacardi 151 and stow them behind the counter.

OP what is your State I'm in CA, K Y has been on clearance and there is a coupon for $2 from a few weeks ago. (can anyone advise newest date of Q?)
Need to ask has anyone ever seen a condom coupon ever???? Want to pair this up to get them for cheaper than this.
IN regards to alcohol clearance its been going on now for a while. A large percentage of wines were clearanced out (didn't take the list as it was like 4 or so pages long) -- Maybe KMA can get the list from her store.
Also would like to advise Covergirl Lipstick/Gloss that was priced @ 2.99 during CG promo week is now @ 1 dollar and 60 something cents. (will work well with buy 3 get blush free)

I sorta remember a condom coupon like 5 years ago. Not something you see often.
There's no list for alcohol. Makeup was the only list I got. But, last month I purchased several types of alcohol for 50% off.
Here's what I bought:
*Starbucks Liqueur
*Leroux Triple Sec
*Absolut Citron Vodka 750 ml
*Remy Martin V.S.O.P. Cognac
Here's what I remember seeing:
*Absolut Vodka small bottle (not Citron)
*Skyy Vodka (small bottle)
*Jim Beam Whiskey (small bottle)
*A couple of cheap, plastic, clear bottles (Vodka, I assume) with brands I'm not familiar with.
*One or two others I don't remember.

I'm in TX. I stopped in another CVS this afternoon, and all the items I mentioned were double the price I posted earlier (probably 50% off instead of 75%??). So this one is definitely a YMMV as it looks like this clearance is a manual, manager-driven deal, not a corporate pricing one.
ETA -- These liquor deals look great, but I'm kind of glad I'm in a state where CVS doesn't have a liquor license. Can you imagine a basket full of makeup, condoms, AND liquor?!??! I think that one might warrant a permanent, non-coupon related store banning. :lmao:

Look for yellow tags that hang below the item. If you just walk up and down the aisles you will be able to spot them down the aisle once you know what you are looking for. Thanks Mrs. Black and repped.

Thanks KMA. I'll have to go on the prowl at CVS this week. Would rep you but it won't let me a the moment.

Yes, it's true you can't always rely on the yellow tags, I've seen lots tagged as "clearance" but actually are full price, guess they ran out of regular tags?

There are two displays of Burt's Bees. The lip balm and colored lip stuff is not clearanced. What is clearanced are travel size shampoo, conditioner, bath salts, wound ointment, body lotion, body wash, cuticle cream, hand repair lotion and other misc stuff. The original price on these was $2.50. I haven't been able to find these products in all stores.

Agreed -- there are two separate box displays.
The BB clearance in the Styertowne (Allwood Road) CVS in Clifton is now marked at 50% for the trial sizes, but I did not purchase so I don't know if it rings up 90%.
The Johnson's baby Softlotion is clearanced to $3.22 and will work with the $4 printable coupon (from the post in the Coupons forum). They will adjust the price down to $3.22, most likely. There were still some on the shelf at the Allwood Rd. location.

Another use for that $4 off Johnson's coupon is the Softwash. It is not marked as clearance, but it rings up as $3. I've found it on the shelf, marked as $5.99. One scent I know for sure rings up as $3 is the one with the green cap, with the words "with vitamins A&E, shea butter & green tea."

I finally found some clearanced Burt's Bees trial sizes yesterday (at, I think, the 6th CVS I've looked in). I got an envelope of bath salts and a peppermint shower soap, but they had others like hand lotion, shower gel and cuticle salve. These were marked 75% off with a yellow tag, but they wouldn't scan in the self-serve scanning machine. They came up as either $.67 or $.62/ each (can't find the receipt at the moment) when I told the cashier that they were 75% off because they weren't scanning.
Even though I would have preferred $.25/ each for the BB, I know this was a great deal because a box of 4-5 sample sizes with one lip balm retails for $12.99
I was more thrilled to find a few full size Kerastase hair products in the clearance section. I got Oleo-Relax for $8.75, which retails for $34.99. I was very surprised to find bottles of this same item still on the shelf for $34.99! The bottle I got is a bit banged up so I've decided not to try to return it. Instead, I'll use the product and feel like Dr. Phil's wife (doesn't she talk about this line of haircare products all the time?)
I also found scrapbook supplies (tape runner, paper, tape) for 75% off and Pepcid AC samples for $.25.
This makes me want to hit every CVS within a 100 mile radius. :-)

I checked the Reese's Take Five Peanut Butter candy bars in Montvale, NJ last Sat., and they were on "clearance" for $.49, not $.16. But what KMA has said made me think--some stores may go right down to the final markdown more quickly than others. I'll bet these, for example, will eventually be $.16 if they are around that long. As for the Cacao Reserve, apparently (according to mgr.), some of the flavors are being discontinued--not the entire line. She even referred to her plan-o-gram as she had it handy.

Please be sure to read the ingredients of the so-called Nutripals items. I almost bought some, but after reading the ingredient label, I wouldn't pay a penny for them, or even use them as filler when there is clearance gum, make-up, etc.
They are worse than just sugary junk food "enriched" with labratory vitamins, they also are made with hydrogenated (that means unnatural and chemically-altered, artergy-clogging) oil. If you don't believe me about how toxic hydrogenated oils are, ask your physician or nurse, or better yet, a nutritionist. That rice krispie bar is lower fat at least.

Do the lawn care items usually go down any further than 50% off? Gah... now I'm thinking about how I bought the Miracle Gro for my mommie at $4. Was that too expensive? :lmao:
I want to dig up some garden areas. Do you guys recommend any good CVS clearance items? :look:
There were finally a stack of Burt's Bees on clearance for me too at 75% off. I guess I should've done a price check. I remember putting in some easter stuff as filler before, & they rang up full price. :omg: :omg:

Ok after a lil run to cvs found essense of beauty make up remover pads clearanced @ 25 cents BUT BEWARE the date on them is from 2006.
Also saw lil ponytail holders i na doll form (paperdoll w/ approx 8 ponytail things) and clips. Must've been for a lil girl thing and its clearanced @ 50 cents. In So cali deals as well.
Also cvs must be rotating now the food as I find gum from 2008 and March 2007. Two very drastic dates. Looking at dates all the time.

Went back to the only CVS in my area (Somerville, MA) that has the clearanced Burt's Bees samples to get some more for 75% off. I was hoping they'd ring up for 90% off this time but no, they're still ringing up at full price ($2.50) There's still a yellow label beneath them that says 75% off, but that hasn't been clarified in the computer. Not that you would be zoned out at the register, but this is just a heads up that you might have to intervene on the price. I hope you guys can find some, too!
Today they put the regular size Burt's Bees item on clearance. It is a plastic bag which includes 4 regular size items and 1 book. It was $12.99 and now 75% off. You do the math.

What I noticed last week is that the "sale" price overrides the clearance price (at least here in Orange County, CA). The peanut Take 5 bars were 16 cents, but had reverted to the 2/$0.88 sale price for all Hershey and Reese's for 6/17-6/23. The same happened with the Maybelline items. Even though most clearance was 75% off, it changed to the buy 1 get 1 for 50% off for the week of 6/17. I had to wait until Saturday afternoon when the sale had been "updated" for the next week, for the items to return to the clearance prices. Absolutely bizarre computer programming.

went this morning to get the johnson's bodywash ($3 on clearance) and used the $4 coupon. It beeped and the CSR said he had to price modify the coupon to take only $3 off. I agreed so as to not make a fuss about it as it's free anyway. :lmao:
This trip did include a total of about 32 bucks of stuff. I used 19 dollars in ECB to pay and had 5 off 30 and about 5 dollars worth of coupons. My OOP was $1.57 and $15 in ECB printed.:yummy:

I, also, am waiting for the garden items to go lower. They were 50% last week and still 50%. One manager I spoke with today said she was waiting for a return call from Corp about when to mark to 75%. Said items (clearance)usually get price changed on a Sunday or Monday. I really want to get more of the soil and the organic mix and some fertilizer, grass seed, on and on. I'll probably miss the markdown or they wont have it signed correctly so I'll think its still 50. cant win too often.

This store is on Main Ave about a block south of Rt. 3 -- it's in a parking lot with Kohl's, it's a tiny older store. (If you're coming east from the Parkway the Main Ave. exit is the one just before the turn into the Clifton Commons parking lot.)
The $3 Revlon coupon is from the Sunday inserts but I have no idea which one -- it's probably a few weeks ago at least. It expires in August.

true indulgence, I think. The ginger tea in the glass jar were 75% off in some stores, bringing them to 2.50 from 9.99. The pillar candles are candied cranberries and caramel creme, and they are 1.75 from 6.99. The pillar ones make the whole room smell good, even when they aren't lit. YMMV, of course.

I've been posting in the discussion threads about my bf's crazy wine purchases. He got some information during his crazy trip today (24 bottles). The manager told him that the stores with small wine sections are clearing out a lot of the older stuff to make room for new ones. He's been buying bottles for as low as .74 at several different stores around socal. I don't know if this is regional or not.
So, if your store is fairly small and sells wine keep an eye out for clearance, especially on the endcaps. He's found a lot of varieties. Remember that you get 10% off when you buy 6 bottles.

08-23-2007, 08:08 PM
Manufacturer's coupon can lower your tax ONLY if you pay with ECBs and other CVS coupons followed by MF. For example, you purchased $35 worth PLUS tax, and have $3 MF. Use all CVS coupons and ECB first, then use the $3 MF last (let's say you have $2.25+ $1.05 tx=$3.30 remaining balance after using ECB and CVS coupons) to apply to the balance and tax (so you only have to pay 30 cents).

What you are doing (and I do) is to PAY for the tax with manufactuer coupons. Again, manufacturer coupons DO NOT LOWER the amount of your tax as ECB's, CRT's, CVS coupons and CVS codes do. This is a YMMV.

Exactly
I commonly have a negative subtotal but a positive total because I use man. coupons at the end of the transaction.
All CVS coupons will remove the tax associated with them (if you have a grocery store that doubles coupons the doubled part will remove tax too). If you buy $20 of stuff and half of that is non-taxable then using $10 in ECBs (or any other CVS coupons) will eliminate all your tax.
When I'm planning my orders I come up with my pre-tax total then subtract $/$$s, ECBs, and any other CVS coupons. Then I calculate the tax based on the remaining total minus the value of any non-taxable items. I calculate it in Excel so I can tinker with with ECB amount until I get my total with tax as close to the amount in man. coupons I have as possible.
sorry if that's too wordy - it took me awhile to understand it all so now that I do I can go on about it a little too much

Some people have said that cashiers won't allow them to finish the transaction with a negative subtotal. This has never happened to me but as CalItalian said, it's YMMV. I have had two cashiers over my many CVS transactions turn down a coupon because it would go negative subtotal. I also had one other cashier hold off on ECB until the end even though I handed it before manufacturer coupons.
If I am planning on going negative subtotal, I also give the coupons that I know I might have trouble with (such as the OneTouch Mini $20 coupon that needs to be overridden and repriced to $19.99 or a BOGO manufacturer coupon) before most or all cents off coupons.

I'm still a little confused about how the taxes works. For example, tonight I went to 2 CVS stores:
On the first receipt, it shows that my subtotal was minus $1.86 (I handed in my manf. coupons last). Tax was $2.05. And, I was charged .19 cents.
At the second store, at the end of my transaction, I was told that my subtotal was minus approx. $5 and I owed about $2.25 in tax. (Again, I had paid with manf. coupons last.) They told me that I had to spend $5 more dollars and then pay the tax of $2.25 which is what I did.
Was what I was told at the second store wrong? Should part of the negative $5 balance have paid for my taxes?
More often than not, I've been told that I can't have a negative subtotal -- I have to get the total to be positive and then pay whatever taxes are left. If this is wrong, how could I ever explain it to store clerks and managers?
Thanks for helping me understand this better :)

Thanks for helping me understand this better :) As we've discussed going negative sub-total is a YMMV.
You overdid it by going $5 negative sub-total. You can't go negative subtotal more than the amount of tax remaining as the transaction won't go through. Technically the cashier was correct in making you buy $5 more in merchandise to zero out your subtotal.
Your first transaction was a good example of how to get a negative subtotal to pay for the tax and reduce your OOP.
It can be difficult to figure out what your tax will be but if you have a lot of taxable merchandise, you can add up all your CVS coupons, CVS codes and ECB times your local tax rate and deduct that from what the total of your taxable merchandise is. That will give you a better idea how far you can dip negative subtotal as long as your cashier doesn't stop you from doing it.

Went to my local CVS to do my weekly CVS deal and needed to find a filler and came across The American Presidents Dollar Coin Collection. Regular price is $4.49 and was priced at 90% off so I got it for .49c. And as an added bonus it comes with a mail-in card to get FREE The History Channel: The Presidents Vol. I DVD. Just pay $4.99 S&H. Its actually a nice coin holder and well worth .49c. Heres a pic on how it looks like...

First off, I'm sorry if somebody else already answered this question...I sifted through a lot of info and it's all kinda running together. Sorry! And I'm a newbie, this is my first post!
Alright, so the background...
I went to several CVS's and purchased the clearance make-up and used manufacturer's coupons no problem. Then tonight, I went to a different CVS and tried to buy some Herbal Essence mousse and SunSilk products that were marked down to $1 and $1.12, respectively. I had $1 off MNF coupons for each item, but I think the cashier rang each item up as "$x.xx taxable item" instead of scanning each item and entering the reduced price. The problem begins...
So when the cashier scanned the MNF coupons, of course they didn't want to go through. So she pages the asst. manager, and the asst. manager tells me it's not working because the items are discontinued and are thus no longer in the system...this is why they're rung up as "taxable items." I told her that other CVS's have accepted the coupons no problem on items on clearance.
Does anybody know if that truly is company policy...or was that made up store policy? I could call the customer service number, but if anybody would like to reply with their own experiences I would appreciate it :)
FYI...the store manager let me use the coupons, but he didn't know what the actual policy was. So I only had to pay $0.24 + tax on everything (2x HE mousse, 2x SunSilk shampoo, 1x SunSilk hair creme).

I'm not sure who at CVS really knows and understands their company policies - if indeed they have them! Ask one question of two different people and you're more likely to get two different answers than to get the same answer twice.
I think if the mgr let me use my coupons, I probably wouldn't call CS - unless, of course, in letting me use my coupons I had a negative experience with attitude, etc. As far as I'm concerned, if they have the product in the store to sell, and I have the coupons to use, they better take the coupons unless they have it prominently posted that they won't take coupons on the clearance items.

I stopped at a CVS today to see if anything interesting was on clearance.
I checked with the manager if there still any summer clearance and the answer was "we have a few things but they are not marked."
It turns out all the Rubbermaid and Sterilite was 90 % off as well as some other things that were not summer in my book. The cargo section and the rear seat of my Ford Explorer were so loaded I could not get another thing in and I spent a total of 35.71 plus tax. I purchased large Rubbermaid waste baskets for 1.20 each---66 quart clear RM storage container for around 1.20 ea, etc. I even got dish drains with the underneath board for 50 cents each and three drawer good size cabinets for 2.50 each that were originally 24.99 each.
I even got rolls of MMM Bubble wrap that are normally 8.99 ea for .90 ea and sets with 100 pieces of cheap storage containers (for lunches etc) for 1. ea. set. They are almost the quality of disposable but a lot cheaper.
I am sorry I cannot post a scan since the products did not ring up at the register.
The manager checked the price of each item on the red scanner and then added everything up with a calculator so my receipt only has the final total as the price.
I am going to make a lot of people happy for next to nothing when I start sharing. Lol.

1. NEVER call corporate- please always ask someone that knows around here, as too many calls about issues COULD start a new policy to live by- those stink! I've endured enough of those over the years put in place by people calling in too much on the same subjects... don't do it.
Yes, and no. No that is NOT their actual policy. There is not a written policy on this. HOWEVER, you DO have something to back you up. The manuf. has an agreement on the coupon that they will pay the store x amount if you buy x product. CVS itself often crosses out clearance bar codes. It's NOT to stop you from using a coupon, it's a faster way of marking things down then programming the whole system.
Next time you do this, tell them up front you will be using a coupon. They will have to manually enter the barcode and do a price over-ride on it. Reason they don't want to is because they get a report on those at the end of the day, it goes against them in some weird way and depending on how nasty management is, it can get ugly if the store has alot of them b/c corporate gets those reports as well. The coupon will scan if they manually enter and do a price over ride. When they do an over ride for the coupon though, it's the same, only worse- they don't like to see over rides on coupons.
*I* do not personally work there- I am there way too much. I know my stores and associates and a few managers. Associates live in fear of those reports, and management hates them as well. But, it's corporate life- approach it politely and they'll always do it. Sometimes they might have to get management approval b/c they are too scared- at which time they'll do one or the other if you're nice.
Management NEVER has to take any coupon- you can report them for not doing it, but- in the end, you still lost the time and effort even if you win. Try to just be really overly nice first.

I searched the thread and didn't see it listed but at several Detroit area stores I saw the Glade Scented Oil Candle holder vanilla rose variety only on clearance for $3.50. There is a $3 off coupon in the paper this week so that makes it 50 cents. In all the stores I saw them in they were still in the aisle and not moved to a clearance section.

The nice shift supervisor told him $0.12 and the cashier replied "Weren't these like $20?" The supervisor sais "yes, but it won't ring up in our system, so $0.12!
Also got the Candle-lite orange and fennel candles for $1, 90% off. All will be great gifts for Christmas or birthdays. With a whole bunch of dog food and other clearance, waled out with 2 bags of stuff and used an expiring $10 ECb on all of it.

A little off topic but…I was at Yankee Candle yesterday and the two associates were talking about how YC bought the rights to some candle scents at CVS. They said that YC is going to rename the scent but the candle is not changing. Anyway, the associate was on the phone with her BF and told him to buy them all up because basically he was buying a YC for $1. Just funny ~ maybe you got some soon to be Yankee Candles!

I'm not old either but I do have to take one pill a day post cancer treatment. I put seven pills in one of the rx bottles. I put it near my computer and since I check my email and slickdeals first thing in the am I see it right there. I can always check if I remembered to take it by looking at how many pills are left. There should be none left after I take the last one on Saturday. Sunday I refill the container with seven more pills.
Good luck on the ECHO.

I really like my carpet flick, I've been buying up lots of the refills for it.
My carpet isn't very thick so it picks up most of the little junk that gets stuck in there pretty well. I love not having to haul the vacuum upstairs all the time.
I used my last $3 off coupon on some of the refills this week, the supervisor told me it wasn't for the refills but of course it scanned so he took it. Any of the swiffer coupons will probably work for these but YMMV for the cashiers taking them. If the coupon value is higher than the cost it will probably beep so buying 2 and using a $3 off and $1 off could be a good thing to try.

i found a bunch of coupons in my "random coupon" file. I think they were from a P&G mailer. There were a couple $5 off a swiffer gaget (wetjet, etc) and $1 refills attached. So, I've been getting them for $1.50.
