View Full Version : Magazines for Miles - problems?

I hope this is the correct forum for this, apologies if it isn't. I've recently been trying to redeem AAdvantage frequent flier miles for magazines via the Miles for magazines link:

https://americanairlines.mpmvp.com/magazine/choose.asp

However, Magazines for Miles is shooting down my orders, first saying I didn't have enough miles (I did), and then saying I couldn't place an order because I hadn't received anything in the mail (the link from the AA web site makes no indication that a mailer is at all necessary).

Anyone else run into such problems with them?

nope we have the opposite problem, we have to do something to our account or points will expire, so they sent us a mailer with the magazines, we're choosing the cheapest one

I never received the mailer, because my miles aren't expiring. However, AA, has a link to get subs on their site.

As an update, last night I called AA. The rep got mags for Miles' service rep on the line, who reiterated their stance. AA believes this is completely wrong, so someone is looking into it. We'll see what comes of that.

I recieved a mailer saying that my miles were going to expire and it gave me a list of magazines to choose from. I picked Entrepreneur, Jane and about 5 others. They all came but it took like 3 months

Like OP, I had a problem redeeming - they never notified me, but earlier this week when I noticed it'd been a few months since my order, I called and they said they couldn' fulfill it because AA hadn't included me in their monthly database (apparently they send a regular update to Mags for Miles so they can verify point balances.) I haven't gotten around to calling AA yet, but the Mags for Miles advised that I ask them to make sure I'm in the "monthly database." Might be helpful for anyone else who finds their order takes awhile...

I finally started receiving my subscription last week. It took some effort, though. I finally had to call AA corporate; one of their people got on the line with me with MfM customer service, and MfM told them about the mailer thing. The AA guy was shocked. he got a supervisor on the case and she was excellent. She actually called me every two days to update me until they finally had the mailer issue resolved.

That, of course, wasn't the end of it. I was told AA would then process the back orders, but shortly thereafter I received a thing from MfM saying they'd run out of Economist subs. I called their CS again, and the woman said they had run out on the old AA offer code, and she could place my order again on the new offer code.

Two weeks later the miles still hadn't been deducted from my account. I called again, and the woman told me they process them in bulk, and that I was ons chedule to get my first issue by october 15 (this whole thing started July 12, mind you).

So last Saturday the first issue arrives. The funny thing is that the miles still haven't been deducted from my account. and AA actually gave me 1500 miles for the hassle. Not a bad deal, though it was a lot of phone time.

Wow, glad you got it all sorted out. We usually get something in the mail when our miles are about to expire. We only fly about once a year or once every other year, so they don't really add up to much, but we've gotten some mag subs from them in the past and have had no problems with it.

I swapped 3200 miles for the Economist. It started arriving after two months. I notice they never reduced 3200 miles from the account.

I find they take forever.

They do take quite awhile but they do come. I'm looking for Amex to reintroduce Financial Times and Economist - Continental seems to have a vast selection
