"The future owners of Dennis Publishing's men's titles plan to fold Stuff as a standalone magazine in the fall and make it a section in flagship Maxim, sources told Mediaweek. The move is effective with the November/December issue of Maxim. No word on the fate of Stuff's staffers.

:jawdrop:
My Stuff sub is good through Jul 2021. I guess I shouldn't have joked that the magazine would go under before I got them all.
Wonder how/if they'll combine the subscriptions. I also have Maxim till Aug 2012, and I know a while back they starting only allowing subs to go out 5 years.

Frankly I think Maxim is far better than Stuff (contents wise) I don't know if you guys agree... On top of that, the girls in Maxim are hotter than those in Stuff too :yummy:

So MAXIM will be the last of the big three (non porn) men's mags, right? FHM stopped a little while ago too I believe.

Never understood why would the same magazine had 2 magazines. Maxim and Suff are from the same company.
Oh, well, I gues is going to go the way FHM went.

NO!!!
First FHM and now this!
I think my Stuff subscription is up to 2015 if I am not mistaken. My Maxim is up to 2012. So will they bump up my Maxim subscription?
I liked to read this magazine for the articles. ;)

Why not? It's not Maxim that's folding, it's Stuff.
This sucks. Maxim is alright but I really like Stuff.
Now, will they combine the two subscriptions for those of us that have both. I still have about 8 years left on each subscription.

The mags are 90% the same anyway.
If I were to look at both Maxim and Stuff (without the covers) I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Content-wise there is about enough to read for 1 hour.
Maybe it's a sign of me getting older that I prefer Details and Esquire.

Bummer!!! My sub goes til 2023!! I expected to have grandkids by then and still be getting my free Stuff mag. Maybe they'll add it to my Maxim which ends at right about the same time and I can read that while I'm kicking back in a retirement home 40 years from now!

Dunno, how many of them will be free subscription?
Many of us had FHM, Maxim and Stuff for free for some ridicious subscription length.
If they tack on Stuff subscription to my Maxim, the expiration date will go into 2025 or something.
Here is the serious question:
What will the women be dress like in 10 to 15 to 20 years? Here is the scary part, some the women dressed will not be biologically women.

True, but I'd rather have my Stuff magazine than some Boating, Tennis, Black Enterprise, Horse Illustrated or Art in America magazine. Many of the new free subs kind of suck compared to the free subs from the past IMO. I just hope Maxim stays around. I still miss getting FHM in the mail. Sure they are very similar magazines, but I liked them all. :)
A free sub of Popular Mechanics would be nice to get again. I know my wife would like another free sub of Star Magazine. :)

I'll bet they knew this was coming for a while, hence the whole 5 year limitation bit they started.
I agree with the others in that they are basically the same mag. They must be running out of content ideas. With only 1 mag, they'll need to come up with half the content they usually do each month!

Just got my last issue today as well. So will they be extending people's Maxim subscription?
The funny thing about this last issue was the fact that they had those new subscription cards inside to sign-up for a year of Stuff.
When FHM ceased publication they didn't send any replacements. I hope Stuff doesn't do the same.

I noticed the same thing, SlickDealio.
My "Collector's Edition" of Stuff that I got today didn't seem special. Granted, they aren't really going out of biz; they'll still have a section in Maxim, but it didn't seem like a worthwhile issue.
The subscription cards got me doing the double-take...
So, no one seems to know, and no word was given in the mag or on the site - what will happen to our sub?
Combined with Maxim (likely), nothing--gone (somewhat likely), what?
(Mine was relatively short - only until December 2009.)

I got this from the Stuff website -
"Stuff Magazine has ceased publication as of the Oct 2007 issue. If you are a subscriber, we will be contacting you directly to fulfill the remainder of your subscription."
Hope that means they will add on what you had left to Maxim

I've been trying to change my Stuff mailing address for awhile now.....any suggestions? Stuffs subscription edit site has been down since word came out that they were closing and my Stuff info is not in the Maxim site yet. My USPS magazine forwarding (doesn't last a year like regular forwarding) is about to expire and I have like a 9 year sub I'm going to take a complete loss on.

They will probably only give us a year of free issues. Lets hope its not like FHM, where they give us some cheap magazine like US Weekly for a few weeks. I got that from them and my wife already subscribed to the magazine and we ended up having two copies a week for two months.

The problem with these magazines is sometimes they only have 2-3 page spreads of the girls. If you got Jessica Alba or whoever on the cover, give us 6-7 pages of pictures of her. And don't tout on the cover they're her "hottest" photo shoot ever (like Hillary Duff's and last months Lindsey Lohan) just to have them in Black&White photos wearing dresses. Sorry for my rant, just sad to see these magazines go. Between Stuff & FHM demise and Giant's awful content switch last year I won't have much to read in the bathroom anymore.

I received the same letter today about stuff ending at the Oct 2007 issue. It stated that the remaining balance will get transfered to Stuff; however, last week I received a bunch of weird letters from Maxim stating that they had to deny an extension of my subscription (I haven't signed up for a Maxim subscription in forever) because I still had more than 5 years left on it. I'm wondering if those letters were a result of the Stuff subscription ending?!?

yeah, got the exact same thing. got a letter from stuff saying that stuff has ceased publication and that my remaining contract will be transfered to maxim. then today i got 3 letters from maxim saying its a 'subscription rejection notice' and that they have a new policy that limits subs beyond the new five-year sub term limit. since i have it through 2011 they rejected adding 36 additional issues to my sub. so basically they cancelled my stuff sub and i got nothing for it :(

I also got the cancellations and rejection letter from Stuff. There is an address on the postcard and I am going to complain and ask for something else in writing or some sort of refund (not likely) but they may have no idea how the subs were paid for, etc. At the minimum I should get a different magazine.

The postcard does say if you want a "pro-rated" refund to contact them.
Worth a shot...only out the 41 cent stamp and a little time to write/type/print a letter.

Yeah, same thing here. Going to write them too. Someone paid for all those subscriptions we each have- even if it wasn't us....directly....
The publisher should have to at least refund some of the subscription.

Has anyone gotten a response from Maxim about the letters they sent regarding the subscription renewals? Since I have Maxim to 2020 and had Stuff to 2021. I don't see them tacking on the subscription because of the 5-year rule. I sent something in the mail the day I received the post card from Stuff and have not heard a peep from Maxim yet.
