I checked but if it is buried in one of the CVS Threads this deserves its own call out!

CVS has the Nova Max Blood Glucose Monitoring System $29.99 with $20 ECB (limit 5)
If you go to the pharmacy they have a diabetes book (looks like a readers digest. It is blue and white called managing your diabetes book top right has free on it. It is in its own little holder.) with a coupon for 50.00 off. They do adjust the coupon to 29.99 and it prints you out a 20.00 extra care buck. Limit 5. CHRISTMAS HERE I COME!!!! Good shopping!

While searching for these books... I seen $2.00 off $10.00 exp 12/31/07... It is just a single sheet Light blue in color coupon is on bottom of page. It says taking care of diabetes or something like that...RACK UP!!!!

This deal is YMMV.
It runs until the end of November.

You need an ECB card for this deal, whether you scan it before or after the $50 coupon is up to you.

Don't let the $59.99 price throw you. It scans down to $29.99 before 12/1/07.

While searching for these books... I saw $2.00 off $10.00 exp 12/31/07... It is just a single sheet Light blue in color coupon is on bottom of page. It says taking care of diabetes or something like that...RACK UP!!!!

There are three different codes on the $2/10's in the rack: one for flu, one for diabetes, and one for medicare.
You can use all three in one transaction to buy the monitor plus more than $6 (pre-tax) of other crap. (from miranda - this is YMMV, not all CVSs will allow you to use multiple coupons like these).

How to get the coupon book! (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=8499361&postcount=241)

The ad states that "No discounts apply."
The coupon beeps for "item not found" so even when reduced to $29.99 it will still tell the cashier that the item wasn't purchased.
So you may get turned down. You can show them that you did buy the item and ask them to enter the coupon as a $29.99 store coupon, but don't assume that this will work everywhere, some CVSs are very strict about coupons and calling CS about store coupons is unlikely to help (and could hurt). Just try a different store or a different shift if you get turned down (and try to be polite, many CVSs are not used to dealing with coupons so some managers and supervisors will be confused by this deal).

List taken from the Wiki from the Mini deal:
If you don't know anyone who can use these here are some suggestions from the thread of where to donate them. Also, you can find a master list of places that accept diabetes supply donations HERE (http://www.ipump.org/organizations/main-1.html):

Retirement home
Hospital, diabetes support group or social worker department
Children's hospital, ask for the "pediatric endocrinology" department
American diabetes association: http://www.diabetes.org/
Freecycle
Church
Hospice
Veteran's Home
Veterinarian (yes, animals can use these too)
Health Department (low income women and children)
Ipump.org (http://www.ipump.org/donations/diabetessupplies_1.html)

No. It's on the shelf... you just pick it up and buy it. (Some stores will refuse to accept the coupon, though, because the ad itself says the deal can't be combined with any other offers.)

It's a YMMV like many other things here... Good luck!

The only problem I can see...is the coupon states one coupon per purchase. They have to let you use the coupon and they cant stop the extra care buck from printing but they can limit you one per trip.

I think if I got in on the deal, I'd try to return the glucose monitors... if they gave me money back, well hell thats great
but if they said "listen, you arent going to get any money back" i'd still be happy b/c I'd have my $20 * 5 ECBs and I wouldn't feel bad about having their entire supply of glucose monitors when I have no use for them

correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think the the ECBs become invalidated by returning an item
and if they did, id use the ECBs and then return them

I'll preface this with a big I THINK CVS automatically will either nullify that ECB slip, or if it has been used, CVS debits the ECB's out of your account.
So if you did this, and returned the monitor..the $20 ECB would be voide
BUT..if you'd spent the $20 ECB already, your cvs account would have a negative $20 ecb balance...so the next $20 you earned would not be printed

I remember asking a cvs ecb phone rep this question and thats what i was told..

Ok guys, some of us are able to get great deals at CVS. If you don't want to keep up with us, make money and get great stuff there for free, like us, fine. Put a deal up in it's own thread. But don't ruin the program for the rest of us by buying something for the ecbs, then returning it. That attitude is the one thing I really don't like about some folks here on SD.

There are plenty of folks who can use - and really need - these monitors. And there are plenty of folks who can use - and really need - the ecb program at CVS.

This is called SlickDeals, instead of FraudDeals, for a reason.

So everyone knows, this is also in the sale ad for next week. These things tend to sell out quickly on day one due to the massive number of cvs deal seekers - but the deal is in next weeks ad as well so don't be surprised if you can't find them until restock day but don't worry because you have 2 weeks to find them.

AND, if you are going to do it, make sure you use one of the printable $4 off $20 or $5 off $30 coupons. So, for each one of these you buy you get an additional $4 or $5 worth of other stuff for free (or for the cost of tax). I know there are printables for $4 off $20 still good but not sure if there are any unexpired $5 off $30 coupons. Mine expired yesterday. Anyways, $4 worth of free stuff for each one you buy is a added bonus.

A couple good noteables you can get with those $4 and $5 coupons - (to keep it simple):
Planters Peanuts, sale $1.99 (there is a coupon in the same diabetes book for $1.00 off 2)
Triscut Crackers, sale 2/$4 (there is a coupon in the same diabetes book for $1.00 off 2)

Just FYI....This is in the cvs thread, not really burried, I believe it is in the first post for this week.

RE: deductibility of items gotten for free or cheap.

I'll wait for advice from a tax authority on this one, rather than an anonymous person on SD.

So far, the one person I've spoken to on it, a CPA with 20 years of experience in preparing taxes, etc. says that I can deduct the FMV, which in his educated opinion, is the price the store normally sells it for. He doesn't see it being necessary to substantiate this with receipts for the purchase of the items, rather to submit the receipt form the charity for the donation itself.

That being said, I'm still not sure whether it's worth the trouble, since I think it's a bit of a gray area (definitely not cut and dried as the SD "experts" would have you believe)

Any advice from an actual tax preparer (other than someone who simply does their own) would be greatly appreciated.

Guess I'll have to find out soon, since I'll be done giving away about $5,000 dollars worth of these (according to the price tags on them) by the end of the week.

Hey for an uber-slick deal
(prepare for sarcasm)
1) Buy 5 of these, under your 5 different CVS cards of course, and using $4 off $20 coupons
2) Submit claims for reimbursement under your flexible spending account through work..This way you will be paying with pre-tax dollars, automatically giving you a 25% (or whatever your tax bracket is) discount
3) After submitting the claim and receiving the money, Return all 5 monitors to CVS for a full refund.

This way, you get paid back $30x5= $150 by uncle sam, and $100 by cvs ECB and $20 in free items (from five $4/20 coupons)

UGH
Ok I would totally do step 1 above, but would not do steps 2 or 3. If I am already making money on an item..what is the need to go the extra mile to return it too? I will do this 5 times, if possible, and donate them to local nursing homes (there are a ton of them around me)
I agree with others who say that Hey, Im the first to jump at a good deal, but do not want to ruin a great program like ECB for others just by trying to be greedy.

I just tried this at a CVS in Akron, Oh. First off I had to ask the Pharmisist were the book was located. She went behind the counter and gave it to me. I browsed through the book and found the $50.00 coupon. The Ascenia Breeze 2 is on sale for 9.99 presently. So I took it to the counter and gave the Sales Rep the coupon. All I got was 2 extra coupons on the back of my receipt. So basically I have this blood monitoring system for FREE(Good Deal). So I asked the Sales Rep behind the counter were is my ECB's for $40.00 he told me to call 1-800-SHOP-CVS. So I called from my car and was told by the operator from CVS that it does not work that way, never has. So hopefully this helps someone out, however good luck cause you never now.

The OP said the $20 ECB was valid on the Nova Max Blood Glucose Monitoring System. You bought the Ascenia Breeze 2 -- wrong item.

Yes you bought the wrong one .It is the nova max that you get ECB's on. I just did this in Ohio and they had 3 and it printed a 60 dollar ECB out so I know it works

Great deal. But don't forget that you can't get ECB value back if you don't use it all.

For instance, if you buy all 5 at once, that's a $100 ECB value. You have to spend all $100 at once.

I will be making 5 different trips through the store in case there is nothing I want for $100!

hmmm... just an idea. instead of donating or returning the item, why not just put it back on the shelf? this way it will be there in case someone who really needs it comes to buy it or another slick dealer shows up. plus you don't have to go thru the hassle or looking for a place to donate. :)

This is a good idea I think, however, it may cause their system or inventory people a HUGE headache when the system thinks they should be out of stock of the item.

Go into CVS. Go to the back where the pharmacy is. Look for the diabetes book. Turn to pg 41 and rip out the coupon. Go get the monitor. Go to register and purchase. Give them coupon. they will bag it up and hand it to you with a receipt that has 20.00 extra bucks on it. Rinse and repeat. LOL!

He doesn't see it being necessary to substantiate this with receipts for the purchase of the items, rather to submit the receipt form the charity for the donation itself.

.

There are some tax code changes in recent years - that make it more restrict in terms of documentaion support. You may get away with it in gray area, that is, if you are not being picked (randomly as well) for tax audit.

Feel free to do it w/o proper documentation, and pray you would not be audited within next 5 / 7 years.

FYI, IRS re-started the infamous Compliance Audit this year.

Yes, they will hand you a card right on the spot and you can use it there. They also have a courtesy card that they can scan (but don't let them use it for these, since the ECBs are tied to the card).

I just went to CVS during my lunch. I ran into a world of problems, but I blame the CVS i went to... Even though I am in the Galleria Area of houston..which is a nicer area..but..anyway. Here is what problems I had:

The book was not there, so i picked up a same styled book called your heart and you or something about the heart.

In it, there was no coupon for the nova monitor, but there was one for another brand, but it was free (like the previous offer) and got you $10 in savings. so I took the coupon up front and wham..the registered showed 73.27.. I gripe, then the old lady and I took a look and they kept a sale price up from last week. grrr.. So I look one more time in desperation for the diabetes thing, and came to no luck...

then I realized the coupon they had in the book was expired in june.. I talk to the pharmacist about new books, and they said what they had was out there...then I asked them about the diabetes book, and they said they have not received the latest books.

so expired coupons, poor management of the CVS, and rude customer service(forgot to mention that one earlier) and no CVS bucks...

That was heaps(or heeps?) of fun. I'm just going to try it again at the CVS by my work. woot.

The Jabes

PS. They were out of both nova quick diagnosis or whatever the crap.

P.S. 2 -- The coupons also said you were to pay for tax before discount..;hm..

THis caused a stir at my CVS no one knew how to handle this transaction. They ended up overriding the price of the Nova to $50.00 and they wouldn't let me scan my card for the ECBS. So I did get them for free but no ECBS. I am going to return these tonight and use the $50.00 coupon again ( my store had tons of these books I grabbed several - if you need a coupon let me know ) then I'm going to use the $4.00 off $20.00 and the $2.00 off $10.00 plus I'll add extra stuff this time so it doesn't appear that I'm getting it for free. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know

The actual CVS ad states: "No discounts apply" next to the monitor deal. So it is definitely YMMV on getting the coupon to go through. You definitely can't claim, as you do in OP, that they HAVE to honor the coupon on this deal.

I would like to disagree. This is a CVS coupon and they will honor this coupon and I havent had a problem yet. Except one per purchase which is fine with me. If you dont talk too much this should be an easy deal. Hand them your card then your monitor and then the coupon. They will have to override the coupon to make it 29.99 but they cannot tell you you cant use you extra care card. AND they usually dont even look at your care bucks when it prints. CVS knows what it is doing with this. They do it this type of deal too much to be that incompetent. You are able to do this because it is a cvs coupon not manu coupon.

BTW, where do they usually keep these monitors? Do CVS stores have a special diabetes section? Where should I look for it?

Usually right in front of the pharmacy counter.

I do agree with zilly on this one. The ad does state no discounts, which means they certainly have the right to refuse the coupon. But, from my experience the coupon will go through fine (if they adjust it). Also, they tend to read the wording on the coupon, not look in the ad, since the "problem" is with the coupon, not the price of the item.

I would suggest yes buy other items, maybe even ones that will also have ECBs, then you shouldn't have a problem with it, even with other coupons. I have done these sort of deals and haven't had any problems with them so far. Find a young cashier too, it may help.

If people keep returning these items that CVS is already generous enough to let us make ECBs on, they will likely stop doing it.
Abusing the system never helps anyone, even the perpetrator eventually.
It's your business what you do, but this behavior will make problems for everyone.
KAT

I think if I got in on the deal, I'd try to return the glucose monitors... if they gave me money back, well hell thats great
but if they said "listen, you arent going to get any money back" i'd still be happy b/c I'd have my $20 * 5 ECBs and I wouldn't feel bad about having their entire supply of glucose monitors when I have no use for them

correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think the the ECBs become invalidated by returning an item
and if they did, id use the ECBs and then return them

southeast Indy is wiped out too - i went to 3 locations - i found 3 at one location and picked them up...had the cashier ring them up separately since it says one coupon per customer - it wouldn't let her take the coupon because $50.00 was more than the sale price. i asked if there was a manager or someone with a magic key and suddenly she was able to take the coupon, and i got the ECB's - $20 x 3.

if you find the shelf empty, ask at the pharmacy - at another location, the CVS employee i talked to put in a special order for me and told me he'd call when they arrived (probably tomorrow) - he even told me they'd order 5 for me.

i spent my $60 on random/misc stuff and a few xmas presents, but that Black Friday idea is a good one - if i get more, i'll save them for then!

I just got 1 at my CVS - there were 3 on the shelf - and lots of books - I went to the counter with only 2 and 2 coupons....the new trainee cashier didnt know what to do cuz the coupons beeped at him - called the manager - he said I could only buy 1 - so fine....I asked to ring them up seperate but he said No - gotta save some for other customers.....maybe come back at the end of the week......
and it did spit out my $20......

My husband is boderline diabetic - so we should probably check his levels now and then - I think it says on the side of the box it does come with 10 strips - but you will then need to buy more....

I just went to my local CVS. This model was gone, but they had another good deal. There's a $50 coupon for another meter in the book. The meter is $59.99 on the shelf, but the box has a $40 mail-in rebate attached to it. So you pay out $9.99 and get back $40.

I had a manager tell me today that CVS did not intend for this monitor to be free, the $50 was supposed to be a discount off the normal price. He said since the ad said 'no additional discounts', he couldn't accept the coupon this week.

He's a really nice guy, and I want to keep my relationship with him good, as this is not the only potentially great deal CVS has had, so I let it go.

OP really needs to revise his title - it is so misleading, as this same information has been repeated in numerous places.

It IS always interesting to see what the rep wh*res will do to get themselves some glory by pulling bits and pieces out of the various threads where folks talk about great deals, only to have it backfire into people being mad.

$40 mail-in rebate attached to it. So you pay out $9.99 and get back $40.

Do not count on it. Most rebate forms state the company will refund your actual out of pocket.

Nope, you'll only get rebated back what you paid out. You need to send in the receipt for the rebate and since you only paid $9.99, that's what you'll get. Trust me, I'm an old pro at getting glucose monitors for my Papa.

a lot of things!

1. They may catch on the deal and deny future SD's that come in.
2. They may call corporate and fill them in pulling the whole deal nationwide
3. Figure out the deal and keep it for themselves, so its all gone when we get there.

If you want to be a true slick dealer you need to abide by 2 rules.

First rule of SlickDeals, never talk about Slick Deals!

Second rule of Slick Deals, Never Call!!!

I was able to grab the last two in the Silver Spring MD store. The employee and the Asst. Manager who I had called both told me they couldn't do the override. After insisting they had done it before at other stores the A.M. said "well they weren't SUPPOSED to, now that other people in the company are doing things they aren't supposed to now I have to too." After her grousing I was afraid to push my luck and left the other one and hope it is there in the morning.

Once again, people have to make it (seemingly) easier on themselves and call. As someone else mentioned, by calling you can set off a chain of events that can cause the whole deal to go sideways. Then they pull the deal and even YOU won't be able to get in on it. (Gotta love that instant karma)

As shown in many other posts, quite a few people have had to drive around. Some have gotten the deal, some haven't. Such is life and such is SD.

At my CVS the item is not on sale ($60+) on the shelf but when I asked them to scan it (w/ my extracare card) it came out to be $29.99. The cashier scanned the $50 coupon and then he had to scan his own card (perhaps to override the register) to give it to me for free and w/ $20 ECBs.

I then tried it again w/ another monitor w/ a different cashier. She didn't accept the coupon. I let it go, didn't want to trigger any alarms.

Went to local CVS and made twenty dollars..

I am VERY happy there are nobody like agree_112 in my area!

My DW went in same store and they called over 1 cashier and 2 managers who proceeded to lock up the register because they didnt know how or didnt care to know how to enter in $29.99 price. They then refused to sell it to her at the sale price so she asked to be sold at the regular price and they refused to sell at regular price either. So we have some real idiots at the registers.

I dont buy the story ----It wasnt meant to be free! Are you kidding me? So what about all the rest of the products CVS gives for free after ECB's? Beeno? Toothpaste? SoyJoy? This is a case where the CVS managers and employees need to say--congrats and thanks for shopping CVS.

THeres a long controversal explanation to getting gift cards with ECBs... Basically a lot of drama to get a $25 GC.

You could always donate the monitors to a nursing home or doctor's office.

I will NOT donate my glucose meter to my local BIG hospital bc they gave me the 3rd degree to donate and they were rude about it all. Not worth my time to deal with them (St Judes in CA)

Anyone in CA Southern have any ideas where I can just drop these things off. I've tried the local senior center AND St Judes.... I do not want to donate to them anymore.

Whsat she means is that you can't just take a $20 gc to the register and expect to be able to use your ecb. You can however take the gc witha few other items (they don't have to equal $20) and most cashiers will not notice or object.

You are not piling on coupons...the $50 off is a coupon for that specific monitor. The $4 off is a coupon when your total order is $20 or more. So, yes, you can use both coupons.

So, no go. Looks like a lot of SDers now are having bad luck... I walked out empty handed.

Just trying to give you some friendly advice, but looks like you're just another one of the rude rabble that takes and doesn't give here.

Good luck with life.:shake:

If anyone would like to mail me a few coupons I would gladly pay the expenses.

I went in this afternoon and saw the booklets and the monitor, but encountered the same problem as others, where the manager would let me get it for free AND get the gift card. The cashier suggested that I buy it for retail (not use my card) and get it for $10. Stupidly, I did this and got the monitor for $10 and no gift card (since I never used my extracare card!

Realizing this mistake, I attempted to return the monitor.

Incredibly, after giving me the $10 back, the manager proceeded to give me the coupon back....in the form of a $50 gift card.

So...instead of a $20 giftcard and a worthless glucose monitor, I got a $50 gift card.

Biiiiiig YMMV!

I got one and the coupon didn't work. She told me since these are on sale the total will be under $0.00 and system doesn't let me to apply it. So I got two and still coupon didn't work. She called manager for help. The manager came and he applied $50.00 coupon and I got $40.00 ECB but I paid around $10.00. Still agood deal because I made $30.00.

I already donate one of them to my local hospital on my way back home and I will give the other one to someone that I know she needs it.

Thank OP! :)

this deal is a YMMV b/c it appears that many CVS employees don't want to honor the coupon. i had to made my car and stalled the line for about 20 minutes just to get one $20 cvs ecb.

also i noticed supply is short and the stores are keeping the meter inside the pharmacy so you have to ask a pharmacist.

*still awaiting my CVS card to arrive*

when it does, then i'll be able to join in on deals such as these. i would have gotten 1 for my grandmother and donated any others i got - there's a lady in my apartment building who collects everyone's donation stuff together and takes it all to the Salvation Army for us. (she's a full-time volunteer for them)

Went to 3 CVS'. 1st one was out of stock, retirement community in central Fla. Then hit up 2 in So Fla. The last one hit a gold mine, cashier scanned coupon and AFTER checking with pharmacist gave it to me free, got ECB. Went to front to try again, it didn't work but I got Tide and Gain for half price. Thanks SD!
PS The 2nd store was horrible, 1st cashier voided trans and tossed ECB. 2nd cashier wanted to get in on the deal but mgr shot down because I would get it for free

In case your post hasn't been responded to, a copy of the book has already been scanned, and someone just a few posts before yours also posted a link to the scan.

$50 coupon expires 1/31/08 but don't know how long the monitor will be on sale for $29.99.

went to 2 different cvs's tonight.
they tried to override it and just adjust the price for the monitors but it would not go through. kept beeping. the managers at both stores couldn't even get them to go through.
I am not sure why unless cvs has pulled the coupon.
anyone have this happen?

Deal is dead. I went to 3 stores. They all had the meters but no booklets. The pharmacist told me at one store, they pull the booklets due to a misprint. Corporate definitely knows about this now.

Deal is dead lets move on folks.

1 store found 2 boxes of books, I grabed 20, should've grabed the whole damn box. By the way it's looking the books are going to get pulled anyway...No monitors, they will be in on Wed. morning. LIMIT 1 PER CUSTOMER.

How are you guys getting more than 1?

why are you taking the whole box if you dont even know how to get more than 1?! others can't find these books thanks to ppl like you!

Tried 3 stores tonight. 2 didn't even have the monitors and the third store manager would not accept the discounted ($29.99) price AND adjust the $50 off coupon. He did say though that he would ring me up at regular price ($59.99) and accept the $50 off coupon. I passed...even though that would have netted me $10...I just didn't have the $10-50 (depending on if I got 1-5) on me to pay at the register.

Also...if they do not have the booklets out by the pharmacy, ask the pharmacist or manager. Apparently from what one manager told me, these booklets are not supposed to be out until November...but she brought a box of them out from the back for me and handed me a few.

Tried to find the booklets, and it's a no go. The store is STOCKED with high blood pressure booklets, though! Me thinks the booklets were pulled.

For the record, CVS has INFACT used a $50 or $30 or whatever coupon making a glucose monitor free. The coupon is ALWAYS worth more than the sale price of the monitor. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten free monitors for my Papa using coupons from the Sunday paper and waiting for a sale. CVS is only pulling this for the ECB. Monitors are practically given away all the time, the real money is in the test strips. Trust me, those things add up.

basketballmom77
10-29-2007, 08:01 PM
if you could get them to ring regular price
59.99-10off50-50.00=0.00 you get a 20.00 ecb, you might have to pay tax.
thats the only other way I see it happening.

Every CVS will be getting these coupons books. They are shown on page 19 of this week’s flyer. Look at the attached image of page 19, upper left corner. I asked the Pharmacist about the book and showed the flyer image. He searched and found an unopened box behind the counter labeled as Diabetes with November on it. Jackpot!

The Nova product is in the upper right of the same page.

Hope this is helpful for all or you that don't know what to look for.

I'm surprised that any of the stores are overriding these prices. I have always been told by them that they are not allowed to do that. For example, when CVS has their Pledge duster kit on sale for $2.99 and there is a coupon in the paper for $3, they have never overridden it for me.

The deal is most certainly not dead, I just got the last Nova at my store at 8:00 PM. Handed cashier my EC card, item, then coupon. She had to scan the managers key card to lower the coupon value to $29.99. $20 extra cash printed on receipt, expires 11/28/07!!
