View Full Version : Make $30 with Ascensia Contour Blood Glucose Monitor YMMV @ CVS

Starting with the Nova Max deal at CVS thread...this week, the Ascensia Contour Blood Glucose Monitoring System is $30 and with the MIR (Mail-In Rebate) for $30 it's free. The way you make money on it is if you can get your hands on the Managing and Preventing Diabetes brochure that contains a $50 coupon for the Contour (and the Breeze 2).

Best thing about the Contour deal is that THERE IS NO LIMIT POSTED FOR IT (at least not from CVS).

The Breeze 2 has a $40 MIR as well, but I've only seen it for $59.99. So you can make $40 on it if you have other coupons or ECBs on your account or $30.01 (or whatever) with tax. Either way, you're making money.

Best thing about the Contour deal is that THERE IS NO LIMIT POSTED FOR IT (at least not from CVS).

I posted a separate thread so more people could see this. Credit to BSmoronDetector for introducing the Ascensia and zohyeahz for the coming price reduction on it.

Posting this for the 50bagillionth time:

BLACK out coupons/ECBs/payment method and total paid at the end of the receipt. Just leave the price showing.

Mail in the recipt. You will get a rebate check in a few weeks. I've done this for a few rebates and always get a check back.

You have to black out EVERYTHING, including how you paid.

Info thanks to:NeedNewShoes

Remember to use your triple extra care bucks!

There is also a coupon in smart source for 30.00 off as well.

Sorry - I must be slow tonight...
How do I MAKE $30 on this? Sounds like it's just a freebie with MIR?
What am I missing?
Are you saying if I use the $50 coupon (to get for free), I can then also get the $30 MIR?
Sorry - it's late ...:sleepy:

What are te details for the MIR? Register receipt required? If so, they will see $0.00 and it won't work. I need more info to prove that this is possible.

I appreciate the post though. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Yes, use the coupon as we did on the NovaMax ( I bought 5 with one coupon, I had no issues).

Also, on my receipts from the NovaMax deal, the coupon only read CVS coupon, not what it was for. The monitors rang up at the advertised price. So buy other things and it should be no issue to be "reimbursed" for the monitor.

Hell if you get a cashier who doesn't pay attention and you buy a lot of things, you might make even more on it (if they give you the whole $50 off from the coupon).

I will go do some research on the rebates.

If you're looking to the experience with the Nova Max coupon, there won't be overage on the Ascencia, with the Diabetes booklet coupon. The Nova Max coupon beeped and had to be price adjusted, with supervisor approval. Highly unlikely the Ascencia coupon wouldn't be price adjusted to $30, and would be pushed through at $50.00. With the Heart Beat Booklet Ascencia coupon, there was no beep, which allowed for overage.

I was giving a perhaps situation. It might happen, it might not. I just read a few people had registers that took off $50 that would have gone unnoticed if they had bought more items. Either way, they will reduce the coupon to $30 off, and combined with the MIR, you're making money. With the Breeze 2, you'll have no issues with the coupon since it's $59.99 anyway.

So, you buy the Ascensia and Breeze 2 with the coupon which comes out to 40 bucks. Then you send the both MIR's.

How do you plan to get the MIR, if coupon reduces the price you paid to 0?

HoratioHoney

You make money without paying for it because the monitor rings up at regular price. If you buy more than just the monitor the coupon just says CVS coupon, they won't know that you didn't pay for it.

I bought 2 Nova Maxs at one store and 3 at another. I have both receipts in front of me and the coupons ring up generically as CVS coupon.

So, you buy the Ascensia and Breeze 2 with the coupon which comes out to 40 bucks. Then you send the both MIR's.

You can, but in order to get more back, you can buy the Contour for nothing after the coupon and the Breeze 2 for $9.99 AC (or less if you combine your purchase with ECBs or other coupons) and then get back $30 for the Contour and $40 for the Breeze.

I know this deal isn't as instantaneous as the Nova Max deal and involves another step or 2. But if done correctly will net you a minimum of $60 cash.

You didn't rep me, but it's ok...LOL!

Again, if you purchase the monitor along with other items, they won't see that you didn't pay for it...It's not like at Target where they show the AC coupon price next to the item when the receipt prints.

I read on another board that people got back the price that it rang up at. So I have no reason to believe that you won't get back the price before coupon.

It's no biggie, really. I was just kidding. And I noticed that you did, so no harm done. Thanks, though.

I have been searching online for the forms (yes, even on ascensia.com), but they are in the boxes when you purchase them.

I just joined slickdeals community but one of my friend works for CVS since 8 years. He says that they will send you rebate only for amount you paid at the end. If you use coupon, then they will not send any money in rebate saying rebate amount invalid. That is why on the box it says rebate UPTO certain amount.

I hear things both ways - and some say that they black out the total OOP. I don't want to mess with my receipts...so, what I've decided to do is to buy the item I'm getting a rebate on. Then buy at least that amount more of other products. I make sure that I pay whatever amount the rebate is for - not with ECBs - and then my OOP is the same as what the amount of the rebate is for...and I still have my ECBs to use on other items so it's not like I've lost anything. Not as great as getting the whole order for free and then the rebate...but still feels like a win to me. :)

Well, the inherant problem with this deal, is that noone wants to buy more stuff with the monitor. The trick is, not to spend extra money. Wouldn't be very slick if I hopped around from CVS to CVS spending an extra $20 each time. I don't think there is any way to get this to work, aside from getting a bunch of free monitors.

True, if the MIR worked, you would get reimbursed for expenditures, but I sure as hell don't want to take that chance.

well in today's coupons inserts, there was a 30.00 mf coupon for the item.. last time i used the coupon and mail in the rebate, i was rejected because they say i already got it for free.. but some posters say they received the rebate nevertheless and black out everything from oop to the coupons.

i'm not sure if i use the cvs coupon instead of the mf coupon, would i get reimbursed?

I have mucho experience with this rebate. The topic has come up many times before and it is HIGHLY YMMV due to the companies interpretation of the fine print (not trying to poop on the parade here, just sharing my experience). Here is what I know firsthand:

The Ascensia Contour Rebate - no limit per person, "Rebate cannot exceed purchase price", I sent in 5 forms for 5 purchases. None of the units I bought were on sale. I used ECB's/Monitor Coupon from Spring CVS HeartBeat book (same as current coupon) to buy #1 and other stuff (final total = $9.99). The price of the monitor showed as $79.99 on the receipt. Bayer sent me a check for $9.99.
On #2, I used no coupons and paid $80 with ECB's - the price of the monitor showed as $79.99 on the receipt - Bayer sent me nothing because of the "CVS coupons" listed when using ECB's.
On #3, I used the CVS HeartBeat coupon but bought lots of other stuff with ECB's. Final total on receipt was $119. Bayer sent me a $50 check.
On #4, I used the CVS HeartBeat coupon and bought other stuff with ECB's. I tired to get sneaky with this one and returned some of the "other stuff" (not proud of it, I don't do that anymore) Original Final total on receipt was $87. Returned stuff brought the total down to $10 (if you did the math from the item circled on the receipt). Bayer sent me a check for $9.99.
On #5, I used the CVS HeartBeat coupon & also bought $48 of other stuff with cash. Final total on receipt was $58. Bayer sent me a $$9.99 check.

The CVS coupons did not say anywhere on the reciept what they were for, but Bayer was very loose (in their favor) when it came to interpreting the "offer cannot be combined with any other offer" clause. I lost out big on this "deal" and I just want people to be aware that it is not for the faint of heart.
I am in the middle of a cycle where I blacked out stuff on the receipt to see where that gets me, but the 6-8 weeks are not up yet. Some people reported success with this method earlier in the year...

As for the Breeze monitor I believe the small print specifies "1 per household" - I will have to check my form when I get back to work tomorrow.

I won't comment any further this after this post, there is no need. I am frankly sick of wanna be SDers complaining because no one is going to hold their hand through a deal because they have no intelligence or imagination and it's easier for them to complain than do anything else.

AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE:

- I placed YMMV in the title from the beginning

- I searched about previous Ascesia monitor rebates and posted the previous experiences that give the most likely outcome to this (sorry, I 'd rather not post links to FW here, Google it yourself). Which is that THEY DO PAY. I know many people want to do this 10 times and make $300, but you have to expect them to catch that eventually. The point is, Cartman, that 4 times out of 5 you did get paid. Meaning YOU RECEIVED THE ITEM FOR FREE AND MADE MONEY.

- If you are a TRUE SDer, you will have all your ducks in a row, prepare with coupons to buy others items that will net you more ECBs and you will pay nothing or very little out of pocket. If you are not, you will do nothing but complain that you not only received something for free but was paid for said item on top of it. YOU DO REALIZE THAT MOST PEOPLE PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE THINGS THEY BUY, RIGHT? EVEN IF YOU PAID $20 OOP (for other items), YOU'RE STILL MAKING MONEY BACK AND GETTING THE ITEM FOR FREE. People will do backflips over $1 via Paypal, but can't be happy about a $10-$30 check...

- The original purpose for this is for the diabetics who have to spend money on this. If I helped any of them, I am happy. If people here get a bunch and donate them to people who would otherwise have to pay for them, I am happy.

Went today and was able to use the coupon for the full $50, register beeped and then shift supervisor came over and did something and it took off the full $50.
Combined this with the Ameal monthly deal and a couple $/$$ coupons for $8 oop (paid with ECB) got back $30 in ECB and will roll the dice on the rebate.

No offense to you or your friend, but this is not a CVS rebate. It's an Ascensia rebate. Being a CVS employee doesn't give you any kind of inside track on what Ascensia is doing. I did my research and there is more evidence that the rebate will be paid out than not.

I got money for OneTouch Ultra 2 & Bayer Ascencia Breeze 2 "with blackout". If you have more receipt, stamp, time to fill out, somebody other than you in your household. You can try with "blackout". Also cut out the end of the receipt after "thank you for shopping with us"

I sent rebate out for Bayer Contour only a week ago. I dont' know if I get the check or not.

Oxy deep pore 5.79
1 taxable item 1.49 (?hairbrush on clearance)
CVS swab 3.19 x 2
2 Flex straws $1.00

Paid with ecb 4/20, ecb $20 from the Nova Max deal, $50 cvs Contour coupon.

Last time they had a booklet with the contour monitor coupon I mailed in for 2 rebates. I didn't mess with my receipts at all and the oop was less than $5 for each one. I got both rebates back $30ea.

There is also no limit to the number of rebates ( I had called last time) they said there wasn't since diabetes runs in families and they will honor any number of rebates from a single address or person. I wouldn't suggest sending in for 15 from the same addy, but 3-5 shouldn't be a big deal. I'm sending in for all 5 this time.

I've done the Ascencia deal several times and my experience has been excellent so far (keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay the same)

Most of the time, the receipt shows $9.99 but total paid has been always less than $3. Always got $9.99 for some reason. Didn't black out the coupon or total paid either. I won't be taking chance with this one though. My receipt from yesterday was showing price $79.99 because the cashier didn't scan my CVS card until the end. Hopefully I can make $50 this time :yummy:

I'm surprised this deal hasn't gotten close to the discussion of the Nova Max deal. I have only been able to find one of the Nova Max, but I have found several of the Contour. I guess it is just the rebate that is turning people off.

BTW, the Contour is on sale this week for $9.99. If you have the $50 coupon and an inattentive cashier, that can mean $40 in free stuff in addition to your monitor and the $9.99 rebate.

I also found Saturday night that the Breeze2 was on sale for $30 with a $40 MIR, so if that price is still valid you might be able to do the deal on those as well.

I haven't done these before so I don't know, but I certainly wouldn't risk a $30 rebate to avoid filling out the registration card. It will take you all of 5 minutes to do and you can even request 30 testing strips free of charge by checking the box on the back. If you don't need the strips I'm sure you can find someone who does.

The easiest way people disqualify themselves for rebates is by not following the directions. Generally, this is one of the things they count on to avoid paying out more rebates. Don't be the dumb consumer they make money off of!

I haven't done these before so I don't know, but I certainly wouldn't risk a $30 rebate to avoid filling out the registration card. It makes a big difference when you're doing 8 of the rebates. I'll send it if I have to, but I'm just trying to find out if they'll pay it without sending it in to save the time it will take to fill them out. You're talking to a seasoned rebate-r here. I did the Compaq and Acer laptop deals (55+ rebates each) and made over $800 after it was all over and done with, plus I've got 2 new laptops...and a ton of useless software. I'm just trying to save some time here. Time is money, you know!

I tried the deal for the contour today. I also bought a bunch of other stuff to get over the cost of the $50 coupon. The contour coupon beeped, but the manager did an override and it took all $50 off. Great deal! Thanks! This was in Trappe, PA.

Yippee! Manager overrode the $50 Q and asked if it was okay... I threw in some energizer rechargables to make up the difference and ended up paying about $6 on a gift card.
I feel like a bandit!

If anyone out there is wanting to do this deal but can't find the Diabetes book for the coupon, here is a printable that was in an email CVS sent out today.

I've had pretty good success getting the overage on these. One of my stores has adjusted it every time, but all of the others put the coupon through at $50. Yea free stuff!

Chances are you won't get the rebate anyway. It's very hit or miss, and some get it, some not. Even so, you'd only get $9.99 anyway. It's your stamp if you want to try.

I'm pretty sure it is over indeed. Maybe the person who posted had a raincheck.

I've been reading the thread, and see that some people had the Countour coupon beep while I read a few others did not (or maybe they didn't mention it). I am not going to send in any rebates, but might buy the Contour monitor and give it to someone. What is the price of it this week, and does either the printable or the Diabetes book coupon ever go through without beeping? (I don't think so since the amount is $50, but wanted to check). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I think it's back to regular price now ($79.99?) and the coupon will probably never go through without beeping because of the amount.

Just received my check from when the monitors were on sale back in Oct. for $14.99, and we got the whole amount back in ecb. I didn't black out or "tape" off the numbers, and got the whole amount back in the rebate. I also got one yesterday from Accu-check. On that one I taped off the coupons, but not the total, and also got the whole $19.99 back (got $10 in ecb for that one). Will be interesting to see if/what I get back on some of the others, especially since I'm sure they're receiving a flood of them about now!

The NOVA monitor gives the ECB (YMMV), while the Ascencia Contour monitor (listed in this thread) has a MAIL-IN rebate. Check out posts # 1 and #2 (and rest of thread) for the info. If it was the NOVA, it shouldn't have come up as 59.99 if you used your card, but if you were able to use your Extra Bucks, you must have used your card. Which monitor did you purchase?

Argh my $30 rebate just came back denied because I paid with ECB. I have another $30 rebate from another meter I bought. I WILL blackout the receipt this time. Hopefully it'll go through just fine :(

I just got 2 rebates from the Breeze when it was on sale last week of Oct/1st week of Nov. I taped out one, and blacked out the other, and got both for $9.99. I have about 6 more out there and hopefully all will be paid. I'm using the money for postage to send the monitors/supplies to someone who needs them!

FYI - This deal is back (sort of) on the Breeze2. It's on sale for $14.99, use the $50 off coupon to make it free, black out the coupons and total on the receipt and submit the rebate to get your $14.99 back. Of course you also have the chance of the cashier allowing you the overage on the coupon, meaning you could get $35.01 in free stuff. YMMV
