The worst thing happened to me at CVS tonight. I bring my items to check out along with my stack of coupons and the csr calls the manager over when I show her my coupons. Anyhow, I tried to use a 4 off 20 and a 2 off 10, along with countless mfrg/internet coupons. The manager looks at them and says I can only use one coupon. I was like, fine I will use the 4 off 20. She then says I cant use the mfrg or internet coupons, since they only allow "ONE" coupon now. I was like WTF?!?!
She then says that lost prevention and corporate has issued a strict policy on coupons and that they are making sure that they are working on - her words - "loop holes" with the scanner and register. I was shocked and I stated, is this with all CVS stores. She said that all the stores in the east coast will be changed first and then the policy will move towards the west. She said by Nov. 18th the systems will be updated and all stores will enforce the policy.
Anyhow, mind you, this was one of the friendliest stores and they didnt care if I stacked all my coupons. My totals were like .84 cents from a 80.00 totals countless times.
Sorry guys to bear the bad news, but now all CVS stores will be DEATHSTAR stores.

Reading over your post again, it's just going to be one CVS coupon per transaction or one manuf. coupon per transaction? I assume it's the CVS ones. :look: It doesn't make sense to not allow more than one manuf. coupon at a time (not talking duplicates of a coupon, talking coupons for each different item). Internet coupons not being accepted wouldn't surprise me b/c they posted notes everywhere in our area at Walmart, Krogers, and other stores because people were abusing the system ruining it for the rest of us.
No idea HTH you worked an $80 total down to .84 cents (would like to know where the heck you get your coupons, lol). I use $1 off coupons all the time from our local paper but daHmn never had THAT much in coupons before. Wowza!

What did you expect?
.84 cents for 80 products is not reasonable. A reasonable person could not expect to get $80 dollars worth of merchandise for cents.
You, like many, abused the system and alerted the CVS higher ups about the scanner system allowing multiple coupons.
I never even learned about the cvs deals but I know when someone takes advantage of a company and it is painfully obvious you took advantage of CVS's lenient coupon policy.

Wait, I can still use, say, $1.00 off shampoo + $.75 off lotion + $1.00 off laundry detergent all in one transaction, right? But I can't combine any of that with a CVS $4 off $20 purchase coupons? I'm confused over this policy.

This is done by using the ECB towards the final price of your total. Nobody is taking advantage of anything. As for coupons, the manager said they arent taking internet coupons and the mnfgr coupons are limited to one per only one item. Say you have two chocolate bars and two mnfgr coupons, you can only use one mnfgr coupon on only one chocolate bar and not the other identical mnfgr coupon, regardless of how many chocolate bars you have. The systems will be updated on NOV. 18th according to her and this was not issued by corporate or the higher ups, but the higher ups at LOSS PREVENTION.

You dont have to abuse the system at CVS to get your bill that low. Its easy and its legal. More than likely he not only used legit coupons but also EBCs (easy Care bucks) from previous transactions that act just like cash and you can use as many as you want at a time. He/she is only taken an opportunity that CVS gives to everyone. I suggest you study the CVS guidelines, policies and deals before attacking the OP and accusing him of Abuse.

That makes no sense. If I buy 2 Dove shampoos and have 2 $1.00 off coupons, they should take them. The manufacturer reimburses them anyway. I can see CVS preventing me from using 2 coupons on 1 item, but not for separate items. If that's the case, I'll have them ring up everything separately.

I find it hard to believe they will only accept ONE coupon period...to me that just means they are going to lose a lot of customers and money.

OP more than likely the cashier is confused on the policy. Not taking multiple Manufacturer coupons would really hurt their bottom line. I am assuming the new system will be steered mainly towards identifying the CVS printable with the email addys that they are sent to. Kinda how ECBs are linked to certain card numbers. I would also say they will not allow internet coupons, especially multiple copies of them. At least that is what I am hoping is going down.

That is exactly what she offered, to ring them up seperately. Thus preventing me from using a 4 off 20, etc. and mnfgr coupons to bring down the total. This is part of their new "Strict Policy" and I asked her about using ECBs towards my total and she replied that "Only one ECB will be applied each time and I can't use multiple ECB bucks. Nov.18th will be a disappointing day for CVS shoppers. I mean I understand where they are coming at as a business standpoint. Honestly, if they are losing and giving away so much items pratically for free each and everytime, it was bound to end sometime, and that sometime is the 18th of November.

This happens ewhenever micromanagement gets involved.
I wouldn't worry too much until some final valuations and decisions get made.
The manager at the OP's CVS most likely totally misunderstood what she/he was told by the loss prevention people. Those guys always come in like the gestapo and get everyone riled up.
Then the corporate office has to start all over again, fixing the mess they have made.
No national chain store is ever going to tell customers they can use only one coupon per shopping trip, period.
They might only allow one CVS email $ off per and I think that is only right, unless you have say a $70 order and then use 4/20 and 10/50, cause your order adds up to enough for both of those coupons to be used, but they might stop that too, who knows.
There will now be much rumor and hearsay on this whole issue, but don't fret for a few weeks at least, until we all begin to see what really transpires.
As they say, " It ain't over till the fluffy lady sings."
Enjoy your week and don't stress. Life's too short.

U DO know that ecbs are paid for by whatever company sponsered the promo in the first place don't you? So if you have a $10 ecb from garnier this week and use that, garnier will be paying the $10 to cvs. If you don't stack and use ecbs and manus you can still get your oop low all legit.
I've been told this poo poo about one coupon in the past and then when I ask to talk to the manager he tells the cashier.......... HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONE $/$$ coupon! The rest are paid for by manufacturers. Should they decide to really put in a policy like the one you claim they will be putting in they'll have all kinds of a mess on their hands. Imagine everyone coming up and buying ONE item for all the ecbs they have earned in the last month. The lines would be ridiculous. I can hear myself now..... ring this one up first. Ok.... I'll pay with this one ecb. Now ring this one up..... I'll pay with this ecb. Now ring up this one..... come on! Have a little common sense! This person might be nice but they totally misunderstood what the policy is going to be, which is basically what it is now but the register has been allowing these "loopholes". ie. stacking.

Your correct in saying that it is feasible to get your total down to x amt of cents with Man ufacture coupons and ECBs and even make on a deal.
Ex.
3.29 Toothpaste
$1 Man Q ( I don't recall if this was amt but given hypothetical answer)
$2.29 ECB given
$3.29 ECB Back
and then say you had a $10 order -2/10 its definitely feasible to get your total down to whatever cents and its legit.
Maybe the OP has used the internet barcoded Qs and it was copies, I don't know.
And the day that CVS won't take all my LEGIT coupons is the day I'll start shopping elsewhere with my coupons. All the coupons I get are from the regular Newspaper.
The party is not over if CVS wants pplz business. Every place except the British Grocery store take Manufacture Qs where you can use them everywhere. Even Trader Joes which I wasnt sure about.

Who said CVS didnt take manufacture coupons? They do, but my manager said that if you have two items with two similar coupons, they will have to ring you up in seperate transactions. First off, look at the perspective of an average CVS shopper. They would buy one item and use one coupon (from the newspaper) the average consumer doesn't buy or take extra coupons to rack up on items to reach the walls, like everyone else does that knows how to work the CVS system. I mean it makes sense and it hurts us long time CVS shoppers. I just dont like this, and I wish it could take into effect after the holiday sales.
Also, regarding the ECB bucks, look at the view from an average consumer, and not a slickdealer. The average person would use probably one ECB at that for their transactions, since not too many people know that you can buy an ECB item with a ECB and get that ECB back. Not alot of people take advantage of ECB bucks. Ive seen several reciepts with ECBs less than 5 bucks in the trash. The average CVS shopper treats the CVS card just like a grocery store card, a discount card and nothing more.
Have you honestly seen anyone besides the average slickdealer pay with a ton of ECBs? I'm sad to report that the good ol days are over. Come Nov.18th, CVS will be a bore for us all.

In my area they are starting to say there is a limit of 2 of the same kind of coupons per product, total (not per day, not per week, etc). You can use 2 coupons on product x, 2 of a differnt coupon on product Y, and 2 of a differnt coupon of product Z, etc. You still can combine CVS and mfr. coupons (i.e. colgate toothpaste: $1.50 CVS and $1.50 mfr. coupons). Apparently they did some 'homework' and found out and said that you are limited to printing 2 coupons per product and that's all the manufacture intends for you to use per product. Using more than 2 coupons on the same kind of product would be coupon fraud. That was their words.

OP: I just read your question about using Coke Zero coupons on regular Coke. Maybe trying to use the wrong coupons is why you're having problems now.
And if you really return ECB producing items, as you have previously claimed, then that could do it too. I don't know any stores that look favorably on that sort of behavior.
The bottom line is that if you do clean deals you will almost always be allowed to do them.

That will work since all the coupons are of differnt types. What they are starting to do is impose restrictions on the number of mfr. (printable) coupons. You can't use more than 2 of the same kind.
I can use multiple coupons in one order in Gainesville FL yesterday afternoon, the cashier did not mention one coupon one order policy. I used all the coupons came from Sunday paper.

"THE PARTY'S OVER AT CVS"
my bff's husband is the Regional Manager for our state, and he said this is simply not the case. What he stated was that it will be limited to 1 mfg coupon PER ITEM, and 1 CVS $3, $4, $5 CVS off $10, $20 etc. How you pay for your order using ECB's that you have earned is like spending "cash". Our CVS stores ONLY take the internet generated coupons that bear the CVS logo. In that case, if you have a CVS coupon for 25 cents off a snickers bar, and you have an MFG coupon for the same item, you would still be allowed to use them (that is where the stacking comes into play). You would be allowed to use ONE $x.xx off $x.xx CVS coupon on the order in general, and use ECB's to pay for it all.
The party is not over-- I think that you had an overzealous manager. But I highlighted a section of your first post because you changed your story further down the page!
this was not issued by corporate or the higher ups, but the higher ups at LOSS PREVENTION.
either it was issued or wasn't issued... and for the record, loss prevention does not dictate corporate policy.
A reasonable person can find very good deals at any store--I can not tell you how many times my balance was zero--at Walgreen's, Rite Aid, CVS, Meijers, Krogers, Farmer Jacks, Giant Eagle...pick a store. It has nothing to do with "abuse". Perhaps you aren't understanding the nature of the intake or redemption of coupons? I ask this question, because I typically find those that are not coupon-savvy stand accusatory and cry "abuse" because of coupon-ignorance.
I do not agree with "abuse" regarding: using coupons for items that are used for other than intended things (like coke zero coupons for regular coke... pampers coupons for Tide detergent...etc.), that is simple fraud.
Returning items that originally caused you to earn ECB's or OYNSO is not very honorable either.
Amen...I got banned from HW because I asked simply if ECB's was the middle Class version of welfare....sorry I call em' as I see em'. It is a reward program....not a retirement plan.
That's just wrong and derogatory on so many levels, it's sad...not the fact you got banned, your statement and judgment that got you banned--and I call them as I see them as well.
The bottom line is that if you do clean deals you will almost always be allowed to do them.

my sister works at CVS and basically said the same thing as ATPRM's husband.
she also stated that alot of stores can decide whether or not they want to take internet coupons since so many people abuse those. (I know that there is no place near me that would take them, which is stupid because when I go to the store, no one hardly uses coupons but me). People have been abusing the CVS system so they are revamping it which is understandable. Oh well.
Life goes on.

That will work since all the coupons are of differnt types. What they are starting to do is impose restrictions on the number of mfr. (printable) coupons. You can't use more than 2 of the same kind.
So it is just the printables? My inserts are horrible so I buy inserts and Q's of course the clippers have mins. one is 5... so I can still use 5 coupons for XYZ as long as I have 5 bottles of XYZ?
I can't say I disagree with the limit of $xx/$xx but I doubt that will be popluar opinion.

Actually it's not! I have nothing against anyone on welfare.. medical asst. , food stamps or all three. What I am against is abusing the system and we all know before welfare reform, it was , in fact, abused!
My judgement is only for those who abuse the ECB's ( and use, to abuse the Welfare system) and that is the sad thing because they ruin it for the rest of us...... ie: lots of cards.

We should be glad we live in country that allows us to see the same thing completely different! I know I am.

No need for rudeness. Miranda is one of the best contributors to the CVS threads. Cheapowest has had problems with CVS before for trying to game the system. It's possible that his store just got tired of his antics.
I agree! Another case of someone who posts 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling' when they, themselves, caused the sky to fall. What do you expect, folks?
my bff's husband is the Regional Manager for our state, and he said this is simply not the case...
Thanks for a great post. Well spoken!

Ok, this makes sense now. It's exactly what I thought, you can't use 2 coupons on 1 item, or double up the CVS $ off coupons. Makes perfect sense. And ECB are just like using cash, you can ALWAYS stack these.

Has anyone else tried to stack coupons and been turned down since "the breaking news" was posted?
Funny how it is a different story at each store- I just got back and the "breaking news" at my store is they would now "prefer" that I stack my coupons as opposed to ringing up 4 $25.00 orders! I said - "so, you are going to take 4 of these 5/25 CRTs from me in one transaction? Along with my MQs and ECBs? Cashier says..."Yes, we had a coupon meeting and I was just trained last week. You earned all those, there is no reason to make you ring up your purchases in multiple transactions....." She also told me that " they will honor all ECBs even after they expire. There will be no expiration dates on ECB in her store."
So, if the sky is falling somewhere in the country, it fell right into my city!!! Yipppeeee!

Has anyone else tried to stack coupons and been turned down since "the breaking news" was posted?
Not for me. (NY)
I just went today and stacked a $3/15 and a $2/10. Then used M Coups & CVS coups. Actually the cashier laughed & said I just paid you. She also said, "I always laugh because people don't know how to work the system." Then when I asked for a raincheck on the Energizer AA batteries she said, "they are right over there." (I didn't see them & figured I'd get the raincheck for the next time they have ECB's on the energizers).
So I got my batteries & then used $3/15 and a $2/10 and the ECB's from the previous transaction. She laughed & said, "I just paid you again."

I went this afternoon (Illinois) and bought a bunch of weekly deals, used a 10/50 and a TON of coupons (CVS and MFG) and used ECB's for the remaining balance. Nothing beeped, nothing happened, got ecb's back, etc. So far all is good here.

This is part of their new "Strict Policy" and I asked her about using ECBs towards my total and she replied that "Only one ECB will be applied each time and I can't use multiple ECB bucks.
That is flat out b.s. - CVS just changed over their register system so that customers can use an UNLIMITED number of ecb's in a transaction. you were dealing with an uninformed cashier that just decided to make crap up because she doesnt want to take your coupons. It is just not possible that CVS legal department would allow the extra care program to continue to be advertised as "It's just like cash you can spend on your next visit" if the use of ecb's was to be restricted to 1 per order. Cashiers and store managers do this all the time - they have a specific customer they do not like so they hassle that customer and impose their own nonsensical made up rule regarding coupon use. one call to 1800-shop-cvs and cvs central will have the district manager straighten that store out immediately. official cvs policy is 1 manufacturer coupon AND 1 cvs coupon per item. coupon use is officially within the discretion of store managers, but ecb's are to be accepted without restriction, 'like cash', as they are promoted. do not believe everything the cashiers or managers tell you. they make stuff up all the time.

at my little store in KS they literally had the loss prevention guys in the store yesterday while I was there.
today, my fav. asst. man./photo/cashier person told me they said no crts or printables will be accepted over 1 week past exp., that it didn't matter if the register would accept it or not.
I told her I wouldn't be throwing them away any time soon, since last time I threw them out, management changed its mind in a matter of weeks. she just smiled and shrugged.
fortunately, another cashier had just checked me out and hadn't known about the new rule. of course, I hadn't either.
I really don't want to get any of the nice people in trouble anyway.
I'll be using those at other stores that still take them. the one in platte city mo took them yesterday.

So CVS is changing this policy in time for Black Friday? :scratchh:
Sounds like either this isn't as bad as some are saying or, if truly terrible, CVS has
a bunch of morons running the show. To change a policy like this right before the
holiday shopping picks up is not well thought out.
I can understand CVS limiting the printables. We have all seen the abuse that takes place with legit Q's that ppl take the liberty of printing out as many times as their imaginations allow them to create usernames/email addresses.
I reckon the folks who just use their CRTs and manu. Qs won't notice a change at all.
But :dontknow:

What did you expect?
.84 cents for 80 products is not reasonable. A reasonable person could not expect to get $80 dollars worth of merchandise for cents.
You, like many, abused the system and alerted the CVS higher ups about the scanner system allowing multiple coupons.
I never even learned about the cvs deals but I know when someone takes advantage of a company and it is painfully obvious you took advantage of CVS's lenient coupon policy.
sorry, I routinely get 80.00 orders down to less than a dollar, not stacking and only using legit cvs coupons and legit mfc coupons and then ECBs to pay balances.None are expired. :)

I had an $80.00 order the other day, and since I always get tons of 4/20 CRT's I asked if I could use 4 of them, different codes, and the cashier said " Of course "
Did'nt even blink an eye, so this is very YMMV. Some stores may face several regular customers who abuse deals and coupons so maybe it is the stores policy.

"THE PARTY'S OVER AT CVS"
They aren't doing that here in Ohio yet.
Here's a suggestion. If you have a 2/10 and a 4/20 and they won't let you use both coupons together, split your order and have them ring up two different purchases.
Giant Eagle tried to take back their double coupons, and we b!tched so loud they re-instated them. This ain't gonna fly with the public. CVS is expensive compared to other stores around here. Without the Extra Bucks, I would do a lot less shopping there.
E-mail a complaint letter to consumer relations via their website. That's what we did with Giant Eagle and won.

This was said and done when the Ultra Mini or Ultra's were generating ECBS or very cheap. THe shift supes just adjusted it to the sale price and in certain cases they would not accept the return with out a receipt.
Thats kinda tacky to return the items that you already got for free. I even talked to a CVS employee and I asked if they had got in on the glu meters and was advised that they had from a while back ago. Why not just give the dang meters to ppl who need them.

You know, thats very unfair of you to say that since the point of using coupons and sales are to benefit the shopper.
If the OP were using Manufacturers coupons correctly, meaning $x.xx off when you buy "THISITEM", and the store has "THISITEM" on sale for $x.xx, which allows the shopper to get the item for 80 cents then, whats wrong with that?
The stores WILL get reimbused from the manufacturer PLUS they get a few extra cents for their cooperation.
Now, if the coupons are illegal or being stacked incorrectly, I completely understand and Im totally against that practice!!
But I have encountered this very problem with my CVS store. The cashiers simply do not want to mess with coupons. It too much trouble for them. They have to keep track of them and at the end of their shift, they have to account for them. Its too much of a hassle for them.
I always use coupons and it isnt unusual for me to walk out of a store with a bargain, although not as swift as the OPs. The stores arent losing anything. As a matter of fact, they are gaining money.
Think about it; they made a customer, sold their inventory and made money by using the MFG coupons.
For those of you who wonder where one gets so many coupons.. try ebay, buy sunday papers on monday ( for 1/2 price ) ask friends and family and check out coupon forums online. You may have to pay a few cents but can make awesome deals in the long run.

#1 The Store Manager or On Duty Manager can still over-ride the system,
The ONE Coupon Only policy is in reference to the EMPLOYEE of CVS.
(Guess they caught a few scammers in their own bed)
I have never stacked the $/$$ off coupons from CVS.
I have used Internet Coupons but I also print out the page where it was sent from, Like the Polly Pockets $5 off.
The system is set up to accept One CVS coupon & ONE Mfg Coupon per item, and you can USE as many of your ECB's Coupons as you want.

Subtotal = $20.59
-4/20 for signing up for email
-$10.00 off of Shrek 3 from the tide promotion last week
-$6.58 ECB's from the crest nightime toothpaste (paid $2.29 out of pocket for $6.58 ECB's with a BOGO and $1 off coupons)
Total before taxes = $0.01
After taxes = $0.02 (was paid with a pharmacy $25 prescription GC)
And with the conagra rebate, gerber rebate, and campbell's rebate on Shrek 3, I will make $12.
Now where did I misapply any coupons, yet the clerk still questioned my total. Even consulted the manager after the purchase. Now am I unreasonable for using the coupons that cvs gave me since I only paid $.02 for $20.59 of merchandise?

No slickdealer would ever believe something they heard from one manager. Managers are known from talking from their rear end because they are far too ignorant to understand manufacturer’s coupons (duh, they’re reimbursed for them!) Ask anyone who dealt with the Kmart batteries deal how many different “official” answers they got from managers. I think this manager (like so many power hungry managers before her) got wind of something from corporate, and decided to interpret it his/her own way (how many times do we have to explain that “one coupon per purchase” DOES NOT EQUAL one coupon per transaction to these buffoons.) Sorry about your store, but I’m sure no one around here reads corporate emails anyway

It's not "breaking news" at all. These types of rumors have been started many times and logic has taken over - CVS makes a lot of money thanks to all those coupons we clip. I agree with those who've said your manager seems to have misunderstood something along the way.
Totally agree. I have heard the "sky is falling" so many times it is getting old...:shake: I figure one day it will get more restricted, but I do clean deals and only "stack" at the stores that encourage it. At the other ones I use what they let me and am happy about it b/c I still can usually make out even or close.
My judgement is only for those who abuse the ECB's ( and use, to abuse the Welfare system) and that is the sad thing because they ruin it for the rest of us...... ie: lots of cards.
What is wrong with multiple cards? I have multiple cards and yes, I use them. I do not profit from their use other then to stock my pantry and that of many family members and co-workers. If I enjoy shopping and want to get deals for other people, what is the harm in that?
Today I used two of my cards to get pop for my co-workers and some candy for the office. I have a car load of stuff I am taking home to my family for the holiday, and I have donated tons of food and items. The names on my cards are all of family members who could do these deals, but don't have the time. This year all the day care people are getting gift packages with garnier and other items in them. I make okay money but with all my student loans and $320 a week in daycare for two kids..rent at $1750 a month (I live in the DC area) I can not normally afford to give gifts and donate. I am happy to be able to make other people happy..and see nothing wrong with it as long as I am not using frudulant coupons.
Besides, I am a shopaholic and this is my cheap therapy. I only see a problem when people try to benifit by having multiple cards and reselling items..that is wrong. I have NEVER sold any of my CVS items.
I had two out of three managers tell me that! I could not believe people would try it but when we were talking about a lot of people getting more cards to redo the Nova Max, they both said "and you won't believe how many will try to return them the next week".

I agree...I have bought multiple monitors (minis, nova, contour...) I would never return them..most have been given to people I know who are diabetic or have a family member who is. I am taking a few to my friend in MI who works at a Vet clinic..which I guess can use them. I am also giving a whole bunch to my mom who works at a nursing home. A lot of those people are broke and living off the state funding..so I hope they use them and like them.

Exactly. I couldn't say it better myself. Just because one manager "says so" doesn't mean it's the truth. There has been no coupon policy change come from the corporate office so let's not start rumors saying everything is changing. I'm willing to bet your manager was just talking in hopes of keeping you from coming back.
The manager at my store works the deals like I do and she hasn't mentioned any coupon change.

Its truly amazing how greedy people can be so stupid. I wonder if they can do something like have a letter next to the items that are ECB deals, like at krogers each item is either F for Food or N for nonfood, wonder if they could do that. pretty sad they would have to get to that extreme. CVS is an amazing store, and not everyone uses the cards, which is how they are able to still make money. I was in yesterday getting the $0.29 chocolate bags, when the girl ahead of me bought a bunch of stuff, the cashier said, "do you have a cvs card?" "no" "would you like to get one?" "no thanks, i think my mom has one" "would you like me to look up her number?" " no thanks" "i told her it wasnt a credit card it was like a kroger plus" "i cant be bothered with those kinds of cards right now" so after she checked out, i tld her to look at something, my order was rung in one touch, ameal, 2 nutrisse face pads, gillette fusion, venus vibrance, 4 coke 12 packs, and a bag of milky ways. handed her my coupons, "this is why you need the cvs and kroger plus cards" "voila, i paid $6.21, and i got back $29.99, $5, $4, $10 and $2 in ECB" she was shocked, but decided it wasnt something she needed to have right now. Stores use these programs for a myriad of reasons. #1, it increases profit. How, you might ask? Because if they advertise a sale, 100% of consumers will get the sale price. If they advertise a sale "with card," only about 85% of consumers will get the sale price (15% will not use a card for whatever reason.) #2, they can track spending. They can know if people who buy diapers, also buy their diaper rash ointment at CVS, etc. #3, Perceived value. Consumers think they're getting a "great deal," but will come in and spend too much on non-sale items. #4, Increased prescription drug sales. People can get thier drugs anywhere, mostly for the same price - whatever their co-pay is. CVS makes most of their profits on prescription drugs.

CVS makes most of their profits on prescription drugs.
i never post here , but felt i must here.
THE PARTY IS NOT OVER. I know many here think they are getting over by getting a couple free tubes of tooth paste or deodorant. but the thing you must realize is how little an extra tube or toothpaste really costs a manufacture. Go ahead Squeeze it out on the table. Its LESS than pennies
As the above post indicates, coupon pimps are small potatoes - loss leaders at best!. i KNOW CVS and Walgreens # 1 issue is putting the store in the right location on the proper side of the street. They over pay for the land by MILLIONS - especially Walgreens. The money is made on the perscriptions - ITS ALL ABOUT THE MEDS and the seniors who do not flip each month for a $25 gift card, but who need $400-$500 per month in meds. The number of seniors is BOOMING in the US and CVS and Walgreens are in a turf war like the crips and bloods to get their med money.

I was wondering why my coupons were beeping..I had bought 2 garnier items, (no coupons but got 10.00 ECB) and 6 bottles of vive pro, using a b1g1 and ON EACH BOTTLE there were 1.00 peelies!! So of course I wanted to use them...well they beeped.. they were not expired and they were for the correct item. The screen on the register said "coupon limit reached". The cashier called the manager over and he overrode the register and then keyed in all the coupons. This happened earlier this week. Could this new coupon policy be the cause? I am on the West Coast.

If the ecb's are represented to be like cash they should treat them like "cash". At my CVS they either credit your cc (if you use one for the amount you paid OOP) and give you a cvs cash card for the rest.
Ive have only returned 3 items in 6 months (not my fault for 2 of them) the clerk got the wrong item from the shelf and I didnt notice NO ecb's until I got home. Tomorrow will make #4 as there was an error in the printed weekly ad. The Rechargable Energizers said Limit 1 The Energizer Maz (16) pack) said Limit 2. I bought the limit of 2 on the Max batteries and got (NO ECB's) I thought the limit was 3.
Oh well Ill enjoy using the cash card!

No its not the new coupon policy if its a man Q. Some Man Qs just beep cuz CVS has the product coded wrong compared to when the coupon was issued and so beep beep.
An example to show you is the $1.50 Purrell coupon. It beeps for the 8 oz bottle and it says 2 oz or bigger.

CVS just spent $27 billion to buy Caremark (http://www.projo.com/business/content/BZ_RYANCVS8_11-08-07_RH7PG9O_v10.26243a3.html).
No successful company can afford to fund excessive coupon usage forever.

I just got turned down yesterday trying to use more than one 4off20
coupon. Said limit one coupon. Also tried to use more than one ECB
and same thing limit 1. My store was limiting coupons because they
are the highest ranked coupon store in $. But I bought 6 Contour meters
with $240.00 of gift cards for 0.00 using the $50 off coupons from the diabetic book. Guess that's why they are #1 in store coupons scanned.
But no complaints from me................I smiled all the way home!!

Is the NovaMax deal all month long? Also, is there a limit? I need to get up on this to make up for losses from Expired ECBs. My store no longer takes them!
However, I was still able to stack today. I haven't stacked in a LONG time. I used to stack each time, usually 2 $4/20s on a $24 order. then I got nervous whenever I went to that store so I stopped, even though they never said anything to me. But today on a $33+ order I stacked a $5/30, a $5/$25 beauty (I had about $30 in beauty products) and a $4/20. The cashier told me he thinks the register will take them, and they did!
I don't really care if I can stack or not, but it's still nice to be able to every once in awhile!

up until today i would have said you can use as many as you want at once time since they are supposed to be like money...
but i threw 3 ecb's down to finish off my purchase today and was told that they were told they could only take one ecb per order. this is a first for me. and he had just taken a 4off20 and a 2off10... but they won't take more than one ecb?
makes it pretty impossible / unreasonable to use a 10off50 if i can only use 1 ecb. coupons only take so much off. if i have to break every order into about $5 or $6 the checkers are going to grind to a halt handling 5 orders of mine at a time from now on.
does anyone know if this cvs is misreading a policy?

I was informed of the new policy, but what the manager told me was "there will be no more stacking allowed" Only one CVS printable Q per transaction. There was no mention of a limit on ECB's being used. I don't see how they could even do that, or why they would want to. It would create a world of problems with lines backing up, and ultimately a lot of customers lost to a frustrating new policy. I think even if they did implement that though, it would only be a matter of time before managers just say fark it, just key them in as store coupons and get this line movin!

I was told tonight that the ecb's are coupons and count toward the "1 coupon per 1 item purchased". This particular CVS won't let me use a CVS coupon and a man. coupon on 1 item. duh! hope that makes sense. Wait, I know it don't make sense that they say that but hope the way I explained it did! lol

i can live with this interpretation. i rarely get useful crt's, so doubling up on one item is not really a problem. and if i buy enough items, the few $$ off's shouldn't impede my use of all the ecb's i want.
i got a really good deal on some clearance items so i wasn't going to quibble (much)... and i would even be okay if they enforced saying you could only use a 10off50 and 2off10 if you hit $60. i always wondered why they didn't spend the 15 minutes adjusting their software to not accept both for under $60. it really would be easy. but the 1 ecb won't fly when i know i'm overpaying on a lot of stuff if i cannot use the $$ off coupons.
oh... and i'm giving a thumbs up for this thread so we can get to the bottom of what's going on...
could they be killing things like staples did? i haven't shopped them in about a year since they got rid of their free shipping.

Personally, I think they are doing this at my CVS cause they don't like me using so many coupons. I had 2 orders. The first one I had 7 items, 7 coupons(including ecb's. On the second one, I had 10 items and only 8 coupons including ecb's but the cashier started to count the items and I told I knew I had more items than coupons but to go right ahead and count them. They're just trying to make me not want to come in there, which I don't much. Actually, just go in there often enough to just aggravate them because of this.
Tomorrow, I will go to the friendlier CVS and see what they do.

In all honesty, how much money could we be costing them? I just started using CVS yesterday, but I used all legitimate coupons and had not one problem. I used 1 $10/$50 one $5/30, and a $4/20, but my total before tax or coupons was over $100, so I should have been able to use them all. If I had purchased the items in three seperate transactions I could have used them all, so why not in one? For every person who uses coupons and ECBs, there are probably 2000 if not more people who don't use any. We are not breaking CVS, but I do agree that there are people out there abusing the system by returning free items and such, and that is just wrong, but there will always be people like that. I don't think there is a policy change in my area because we are small, and I think I am the only person who visits the store and actually uses coupons.

If this turns out to be a limit in terms of how many CVS Q's (not including ECBs), then it's NOT new information. This is simply how it's been for me at the stores I shop for a long time now.
When the computer system changed over, I got clarification from the manager as to how many items I had to buy in order to use the CVS Q's that I wanted. If I had a 5/25 and a 2/10, I had to spend the 25 on at least 2 items. I could also use manu q's on those 2 items and pay with ECBs. If I wanted to use CRT's with a matching manu Q on those 2 items, I needed to have at least the same number of items as the Q's for the computer to let them push them through. Hello fillers. However, if I was only buying 2 items, but wanted to use 5/25, 4/20, and a 2/10 - it'd be a no go because I didn't have enough items.
Now, if they change it to ECBs counting as Q's, I'd love to see that corporate memo. That will change things for sure.
Bu it makes no sense. It would basically be like saying, come in to our store, buy the Dawn that's on sale. Even though our ad says to use a Q to save even more, if you buy just that and give us the manu Q, you won't be able to pay with an ECB b/c you have 1 item and want to use 2 coupons.
For those of you with stores that are doing that, I would contact corporate or customer service or something. They are not doing that crazy interpretation around here. :dontknow:
I went to my favorite store today, they told me they just accept one CVS printable coupon from now, crt counted to the printable CVS coupons. They look carefully all of the mfr coupons, but they can accept multiple EBs. But the other store still allowed to stack CVS coupons and crts.

Shopped at one store today and used one CVS and one mfg for every single item with no trouble. There was ONE beep, I told the cashier not to worry about overriding it (flyer coupon and can use it still) - got home, realized it was "one over" the one CVS Q per item limit. No troubles. I am on the east coast. STill, something good to keep in mind. I know there will come a day when I'll go in and they'll say "only one CVS coupon per order and no stacking." I will have to have them void it all out, redo it as separate items, then be more mindful from hereon out.

Wait until the companies that allow multiple printings from their site start getting complaints about being limited to "coupon use". Example is the company that makes Oxy for acne they allow you to print multiple coupons as does the company for Advil, Robitussin: You have your own name and security code and (experiation date is different when you print new ones) on the coupons from them.

I actually have a CVS store that told me I could only use as many ecb's as I have products...What I mean is, they're counting the ecb's as q's. I told them if I have 1 item worth $4 and 4 $1 ecb's, that means I can only use 1 of them? They said yes...I told them they were the only store doing that and that I felt they just didn't want my business.
I ended up telling them they needed to get their act together and that I would call CS and ask them...they didn't want me to do that.
Anyway, I just left the store and went to a friendlier one down the road

Dear CVS Slickdealers,
I am posting this letter on this site to ask that you please stop ripping off my company. I am tired of being taken advantage of and hurting our bottom line. I ask that you shop at other venues like walmart, walgreens, and rite aid. I dont need you con artists at my stores anymore. In other words, get lost and have a nice day.
Mr. Thomas M. Ryan,
Chairman, Chief Exec. Officer,
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Dude made 18 million last year sitting on his ass doing nothing and thinks our extra 25 cent off coupon is hurting there bottom line
Try taking a paycut dumb ass

LOL! There isn't a CEO in the world who would ask anyone to shop at a competitor's store.
Or lose the ability to capitalize proper nouns.

Today I had bad experience, that too at my favorite CVS, where I have never come across any problem.
I was paying at the counter and manager came to me and asked to see my coupons. I was using 5 off 30, 4 off 20 welcome and 4 off 20 email coupons. He said - "You always use these coupons and pay almost nothing for so many items." And he took over the payment counter and started reading all coupons. He said "Last time you used welcome coupon and that is for one time welcome only. And I will not allow you to use this coupon." He took my Extra Buck Card number, name and phone number. He said "We will investigate coupons you have used and may be police will be involved." He used other two coupons and allowed me to finish my purchase.
I think that CVS is out of my list....that was favorite one and all associates were nice.
Sorry, but just want to share and vent what I experienced today.
This was posted above by someone at another thread. Seems like management aint going to let this slide. Stacking, legit coupons, and muti ecbs. This sucks since the holiday shopping season is on its way.
Guess the sky has fallen, parties over guys!

I think it's time to close this thread. I don't think this guy is dumb, but craves attention. If you look at many of his other posts, he writes things that are inflamatory to draw a response. The response is negative, but it's much like the child who'd rather be abused than not get mom and dad's attention at all.

Judging from the negative responses from the CVSers right now, who are you calling chicken little. D-Day is tomorrow and everyone here was given a FULL WEEK to prepare for this bad news. YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS for not believing me!!
My cashiers aked me if they could have some of my extra's (4 off 20's), for shopping after their shift:lol: Stacked like the Idiot you called me tonight. Nada problemo.

Hey buckeye, let's turn this into a BCS thread instead.. GEAUX TIGERS!!
The party's still ON at CVS, to celebrate the news I ran through the aisles crazed my delight, throwing 29.99 Extrabucks in the air while the cashiers cheered me on. Cheapowest, you're like a bad host of a keg party that everyone else is having fun at. Here, this one's for you--

Not much of a party going on here in NE, Ohio. Policies are all really strict except for a few stores - and none of these are near me.
Look at it this way, if they're really going to tighten their policy, then they better lower their prices. Walgreens, Discount Drug Mart, and Marc's all beat them on their prices every day. Without the ECBs program and printable coupons, they can kiss a lot of customers goodbye. Giant Eagle sells over 400 prescriptions at $4.00 each with or without insurance. Just for the heck of it, I called CVS to see what my $4 prescripton would cost there... it was $17.00! No sense to transfer; I'd lose money on the refill unless I transferred it back, and I don't think Giant Eagle would appreciate that.
